So, VW is going full-on electric then....

https://insideevs.com/news/485805/volkswagen-id6-i...

Not the most imaginative naming structure, but thats the ID3, ID4 and now ID6.... is there a big market for a 3 row SVU EV? The SUV market is exploding and swallowing up everything else, but cant help thinking that the 3-row 7 seater market is a little narrow?

Indistinguishable from most Peugeot, Renault or Opel/Vauxhall MPV out there. Sure it works for some segment of the market, but bland.

Have VW, apart from a few specifics, ever been interesting? Bland sells I guess.

It absolutely does. Toyota and VW are two of the biggest OEMs in the world getting on for 10million cars a year each. Look at their line ups, for the most part it’s beige all the way down.

Definitely strong demand for 7 seaters, especially if you have small children. Those massive car seats require a massive car to fit them in.

The ID6 is suitably bland. It should sell strongly.

Is that the most positive / negative comment in the least words possible? Ouch. Correct, but still ouch...

And I wonder what colors VW will do it in? I am thinking beige and a few dodgy greens.... ;-)

the future is electric and we end up with this car, that looks like it was designed for 70+ year olds. Sure will sell by the bucket loads, similar to Tesla jelly mould style,

The article implies it will be chinese market only, so it's of dubious relevance to us anyway.

I reckon it will end up here as a Skoda or something.

Skoda have the Kodiaq 7-seater and from the number of them I see around here, it sells very well. Its huge! but then if you have 3 kids and a dog, it makes sense.

Not disputing that bland sells, but I'd disagree that Toyota's lineup is as beige as you say it is. 5 years ago maybe I'd agree, but their current range is much improved. They've actually got some radical designs in the CH-R, Prius, Supra and GR Yaris.

Even the new Yaris and new Corolla are quite sporty and modern looking now (IMO) and the GT-86 is pretty much the only car of its type now. You've got the RAV-4 PHEV as well which is quite muscular looking and quite competitive with rivals too. Certainly more interesting to my eye than the Tiguan, Kuga etc.

I'll agree that the Camry and Corolla saloon are beige, but they don't seem to sell many of those based on what I've seen on the road.

I think Toyota are making some good looking cars at the moment and it's no wonder their market share has increased.

If I can get 3 kids, errr adults in the back and 3 dogs in the rear and a roof box on top I'll sign the cheque now.

Where's the estate? I want a fast EV estate that will do 200-250 miles, surely that's possible now.
I will buy one as soon as it become available, I have the money, there's just no product. I don't want a tall fat thing.
An all electric Octavia with the same massive boot please, anyone?

Am aware of the MG5 but it's hideous and won't quite go far enough.

Estates don't sell, SUVs do.

I'm sure estate will start to appear in the end, but right now the EV market and estate markets are both small enough that the cross-over point of the two isn't worth catering for.

I think there's a Taycan estate due this year, but it wont be cheap!

The car is dead: Long live the SUV.

For most manufacturers, there is no profit to be made in cars because almost everyone wants an SUV, and will pay extra for them. You shouldn't expect to see so many electric cars as manufacturers move to what they can make a profit out of.

MG5 will clean up the small town taxi market.

Why though ?

As an example the Evoque - a rattly 4 cyl diseasel, tiny inside, not Sporty, no Utility
