Couple of current Leaf questions
Discussion
Looking at jumping on the cheap Leaf lease bandwagon, but have a couple of specific questions, and of course we can't go and look at one anywhere at present.
Q1. How big is the boot? Seems a decent size from the pics but they can be deceptive. We have a GSD and a smaller GSD cross, and whilst the Leaf wouldn't be our only transport, we do need to throw them in there from time to time. MrsC's current chariot is a Citroen C3 Aircross and they're fine in there, although that does have the useful Citroen quirk of rear seats which slide forward to increase boot space.
Q2. We're looking at the 40kWh version, again due to the low lease prices on offer. Outside of lockdown, MrsC regularly visits her father, which is an 80 mile journey mostly on motorways and A roads. Is the 40 going to be OK for range on that journey? (She invariably stays overnight so it only needs to make it one way without a charge). She won't cope with range anxiety well, believe me!
Thanks.

A 40kwh Leaf will certainly do 80 miles comfortably on a full charge, even in poor weather.
The boot is pretty much par for the course for a C-segment hatch, although it has a very deep boot floor, meaning there's an enormous lip to both the boot opening and the rear seats when they're folded. If you get the top spec model there's also a big subwoofer running across the boot. You probably need to go and poke around one to see if it's suitable for your dogs.
The MG ZS EV might be a better bet in terms of boot space because it has a more vertical rear window and hence more "headroom" for dogs in the back.

Boot is pretty big - 436 litres. Bigger than most normal family hatchbacks like Golf and Focus. Deep floor below the load lip so good for dogs - unlike the Ioniq, which has lots of floor area but not much height.

I haven't looked closely at the Ioniq but at a glance it seems to have a much more pronounced slope on the rear window? That would compromise the dogs, esp the big one, if I'm correct?
Yes, boot definitely taller in the Leaf. The Ioniq is a good shape for luggage but you’d struggle with dogs. Gassing Station | EV and Alternative Fuels | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
