This is being unveiled later and, whilst it won’t be coming over here, it’s still a big deal. America’s best-selling car going electric is quite exciting I think - hope we find out some of the specs.

Countdown.

Two reasons I'm not interested.
$70,000 price tag and it's a Ford.

I clicked this all excited hoping it was going to be a thread about converting an old f150 lightning to lpg, being in the alternative fuel forum.
Bit disappointed now.

I owned a 94 Lightning with the 35I windsor and GT40 heads. The thing went like a scalded cat to 60mph but sucked fuel like it was going out of fashion.

More impressed than I thought I would be. Starts at under $40,000 and the frunk looks way more useful than anything I have seen so far.

Stealing a couple of ideas from Elon there. The iPad pro in the centre console is not the best idea to steal, but it is what it is. The concept of having it as a Powerwall with wheels is quite frankly brilliant though.

indeed, vehicle to home is a massive plus IMO, and the one is the ford (on the large pack models) has a bigger capacity and higher output than a power wall

V2H will be mandatory for me on my next car, musk is really lagging behind in a lot of ways, V2H, V2G, powering devices, andriod auto, car play etc.

the frunk space is hugely impressive on the F150 as well

Think this will be a good litmus test of if the typical driver of this vehicle in America will contemplate an electric Vehicle or if they will hate them out of principle. The base price seems pretty good compared to most new EV's so Ford must be determined to sell them.

10,000 lb towing weight is way more than most EV's isn't it? Model X was about the first to be able to tow and can only manage half that.

I'm really impressed, loads of clever stuff there. The grille being part of the frunk lid is great, lip is no higher than a SUV boot and probably as big as them. Power sockets and lights everywhere. The shifter getting out of the way so you can plonk your laptop down there to do some work. V2H is a really big deal given all the power issues in the US recently.

The sub-$40k one is commercial (so probably very basic) but $52k (minus tax credits) for midrange XLT is OK. A petrol XLT supercrew is $43k.

Anything on weight and battery size? I'd assume the battery must be a monster to offer that kind of utility/range in such a big vehicle so surprised they can sell them so cheap?

They say 30kWh per day for their "power your house for 3 days" claim with the extended battery - so 90+kWh.

I reckon approaching 150 kWh for the long range model, astonishing amount of battery for the asking price!

Getting lots of conflicting prices

"Perhaps the most startling Lightning feature is its starting price. As mentioned, the base work truck starts at $41,669 and is available for both retail and fleet customers. It is one of four trims; the others are the popular XLT (which starts at $54,669), Lariat (starting price forthcoming), and Platinum (about $90,000)."

Seen reports suggesting the battery pack weight 1800lbs (820KG). Assuming 160Wh/KG as an average that's a 130kWh pack. Huge, but not as impressive as the 200kWh behemoth GMC are fitting to the Hummer EV. That's 1250KG in batteries alone. smile

No doubt like all US prices excluding State Sales Taxes so in the UK add 20% VAT if you did a private import or Ford start shipping them over.
(reclaimable by a business of course).

Expect to in a long line given how many F150's Ford shift each year. Where's the cyber truck Elon?
