Which EV? Help.
Discussion
As I've mentioned elsewhere I've got the option of having a new company car in March next year and if I get one it's going to be an EV. With lead times being what they are I feel like I need to make a decision in the next month or two.
I've narrowed it down to this list and I'll detail the extra cost to me (if there is one) above the BIK payments
1.) BMW IX3 £41
2.) Q4 etron 50 Sline (with pretty much every extra ticked) - £37
3.) e-tron 50 technik - £67 - this is the bog standard etron but it comes with a lot of stuff as standard that is an option in the smaller Q4 etron
4.) Polestar 2 dual motor long range plus - £31
5.) Tesla Model 3 dual motor - £0
So the Tesla is the fastest and the cheapest.
I'm doing my best to schedule a three day test drive of the q4 etron and will hopefully get to go over to Manchester to test the Polestar 2.
Which would you choose?

It all depends on things such as is it required to be a family car as well or just for you etc.
I have just ordered no. 2 as a ‘family’ vehicle felt this was a good mixture of design, practicality and ease of use (servicing etc).
1. Not a huge fan of the looks, but seems big enough internally and boot from a practical point etc. Reasonably costly. See late brake show YouTube review.
2. As noted above. My wife drove our test and liked it (current car is Volvo XC90). 40 seemed adequate power etc. Went 50 though.
3. Seems expensive compared to Q4 with less range and tech? Some reviews think so.
4. I like the looks and design, but the boot is just too small for us. Bigger boot and I could have been tempted to have a look into more.
5. Not read overly good reviews on quality and nearest ‘showroom’ was an hour away. Wife likes SUV cars.
I hope this helps if it’s more family view.

I take it you've ordered a Q4 then? Did you look at the bigger etron? I watched a comparison video last night with a guy (who I think was in Norway) and he was comparing the two and the Q4 did seem less well put together than the etron, plus it's smaller.
Lead times on some of these cars are ridiculous though.

The Dual Motor is the Long Range iirc? I'm a bit biased, but if it's a premium to get any of the others... I'd just go Tesla Model 3.
It's fun to drive and something genuinely different. It would be hard for me to decide between that and the Polestar if costs were the same.

IMO, the first 3 are over priced and under deliver.I've narrowed it down to this list and I'll detail the extra cost to me (if there is one) above the BIK payments

It would be out of the polestar and tesla and i would say tesla all day long and twice on Sunday for the charging network alone.

Is build quality of the tesla as crap as everyone seems to imply? Magazines always have it down as being the best executive model, but on here everyone seems to give it a bit of a slagging.
Most of the people here have it from hearsay.I'd say give it a test drive and see if it's true or bothers you.
Even if it were true, it's the only one on the list that feels like a sports sedan (and not just because it's the only sedan
), maybe a part from the polestar.Definitely don't rule it out on third hand accounts and have a test drive.

I've test drove a few, including a new Model S 75D (bottom of the range) and they have all felt well put together.
Build quality issues IIRC were around 2015 with the model S, but have moved on a great deal since.
Yes I’ve ordered a Q4 50 SLine Quattro with quite a few extras. this month and expected around feb / March next year. Works well as the Volvo goes back in March. I did look at the bigger etron but I did not think it was worth the extra £10k+ over the Q4. It will be purchased via our company so that was a consideration also.
The bigger etron needs a lot of extras to make it look better as it is a relatively bland car in my eyes.
I’m sure better cars will come in the future and a bigger car would have been better, but you can only choose from what’s available and the elec route from a cost / tax view was definitely worth it.
It comes with a 7kw charger install and 99.9% of our charging will be home based.
The Q4 is for my wife and I’m keeping my petrol (smaller but more fun) car also for when the Q4 does not suit. If I had to reply on outside charging and not the tax benefits etc I would be giving a few more years before making the elec jump I think.

Thanks, I've got two kids but our other car is a Skoda Superb. Of course being a company car I would choose to then use this as the family wagon as often as I could just to save wear and tear on the car we actually own so being practical is a good thing.

Sad that the M3P has gone up by £10,000 over the last few years - it used to be what the LR is now!
In all fairness, Track mode looks great (honestly, I'd love to have a play with front-rear drive balance). But 0-60 in about 4 seconds is not too bad tbh
.for "passenger reactions" you NEED the 0-60 in 2.9

To be honest, the biggest thing is what you will use the car for. There are so many aspects should be taken into account before you go for a particular one.
The risk is you might buy something that seems good, but can’t do the car-things that you want it to. For example, young kids? SUV makes more sense. Haul some stuff around? Bulk buy at Costco? Bigger boot makes sense. Want to do some spirited country drives? The M3 probably makes most sense.
They are all so different that you don’t want to get stuck with a car you don’t want.

Of course - silly thing is that because we're a two car family I can be totally flexible in what I want. I've never had an SUV - maybe I'd enjoy the novelty? I used to have an M140i and enjoyed the acceleration etc so then the M3 or Polestar seem more attractive. I'm also leaning heavily towards thinking I want the most luxurious, well put together interior you can get for the money. Right now I'm very much favouring the Polestar.
I changed from a Mercedes AMG C63 estate to a Tesla Model 3 Long Range a couple of months ago.
Don't miss the C63 at all. Tesla is more comfortable, not much smaller in luggage capacity, the build quality is actually probably equal to or sightly better than the Mercedes (it definitely doesn't squeak and rattle as much) and the acceleration is pretty much the same.
As said above, I'd suggest you test drive a few different EV's but if you do any kind of long distance driving at the moment the Model 3 would be the one to go for simply because the Supercharger network just works.

Maybe enjoy the novelty of an SUV? Mmmm, maybe, but unlikely! Always been a fan of stupid big, loud and V8 powered ones, but SUV's are compromise at best. Now, if you are hauling a bunch of stuff around, they can be super practical, but.....
Since you had a 140i, you might find something quicker is good also. However, a common complaint of an EV is the feeling while driving swiftly. They have got better, which is great, but you cannot hide the weight. The 140i is no superlight, but BMW has always done a great job of balancing the drive, handling, ride and feel across most of their products and the 140i is widely regarded as very good. Will a M3 or Polestar get close to the driving dynamics? Maybe, but it will be different. Remember watching a video of Chris Harris reviewing the M3P on track. Brutally quick, set great times. But he had to change his driving style dramatically and just resorted to traction to set fast lap times, rather than doing it right. There is something deeply satisfying getting the right line, balance and feedback while going around a corner (doesnt have to be on a circuit), so it really depends on what your style is. But I suspect the 140i might be the more satisfying car to drive than either the M3 or Polestar, but also likely to be the slowest!
I REALLY like the interior of the Polestar. Always had a soft spot for Volvo seats and they fit me brilliantly and have done plenty of miles in them. I am taller (and wider) so appreciate the comfort and support. Tesla seats dont really do much for me, but hey, try them out - I know a few owners who really rate them! And I have to say, I would never purchase a new car that doesnt have CarPlay or Android Auto going forward (or the ability to 'upgrade' it).
