EV Company Car
Discussion
Hi all,
I am planning on giving up my car allowance and moving back into the CC scheme now there are lots of EV options.
Will be selling the family Tiguan bus but need an SUV sized replacement. (3 kids and a dog!)
I have demos lined up for the Q4, I-Pace and EQC. I can get pretty much the top spec of each without any contribution. Can’t go Tesla as model 3/S not dog friendly.
Anyone driven all three - interested in thoughts?
First EV as well
Thanks

Ipace, poor range, usual JLR reliability
EQC poor range
XC40 ?
Eniro - is it big enough ?
Had an I Pace for 2.5 years - zero issues . Range is about 230 miles and attainable if you stick to speed limits - 30% variation in miss daisy range and giving it beans. Easy to drive with one pedal . Can get 2 off Airedales in the rear but they do complain about headroom ...EQC poor range

I was in a JLR dealer yesterday - lead times 12 months ... ( not sure about I Pace specifically )
Had an Etron for nearly 2 years - off the road for 4 months ( but it was during covid ) . Bit of a barge compared with the IPace but a nice place to waft . Range around 190 miles ,same comment as I Pace . Well screwed together but low regen compared with I Pace or i3
Not driven an EQC but they do look a quality product .
ID4 or Q4 would take 2 dogs in the boot .
HTH
Can't help much with the ones you list but only the ipace is fun to drive.
BMW iX is coming soon, reviews are just coming out and its shaping up to be very impressive if you can get past the front grill. No idea what the waiting times would be for delivery but from whats been said, it will set the standard.

Thanks for all the info!
Variety of views/experiences as I would expect. Main use is going to be city driving with regular trips to Devon which from Bristol is ~100 miles and I can charge from house when there. So it doesn’t feel like range is a huge issue but obv the higher the better!
On the alternatives - adding Ioniq 5 to the test drive list.
XC40 - to small I think, ID4 & iX not too keen on either visually!
I knew lead times would be a challenge and hopefully I can convince my company to put me in a hire car whilst I wait as then I can take advantage of the current high prices on used vehicles sales :-)

OP, a couple of questions - how old are the kids? What sort of dog?
I have 3 kids in the back of mine and we can just fit two high back boosters and the eldest (10) wedged in the middle.
The boot is reasonable but not sure if you'd get a dog cage in there & I certainly couldn't get my dog in there (English Mastiff).
The range is quite limited, the max I've seen is 230 miles and I'm not sure how close to that you can actually get. My longest, regular trip, is 180 miles each way with an over night. So it's not a big issue, and other trips I can manage with a 20 minute coffee stop & charge each way. My company has a policy of a rest every two hours driving. So for the range is not an issue for me, however it could be limiting.
I would ask whoever manages the fleet at your company for a test in the two or three cars you fancy and see what you prefer. The EQC is a lovely place to be while travelling, but it does have draw backs.

3 kids but all teenagers so no car seats! They all fit fine in the Tiguan.
Dog is a British Bulldog so width more than height required! He currently travels in a crate but may look at one of those space divider type options going forwards.
I have requested extended demos of all 3. Need to test in the family real world fully loaded up etc.

Tested the ipace but deal wasnt v good and interior not as nice as etron. Got a great lease deal last year on the lower battery 50 etron and run it as a company car. Kids are 14/16 and 6foot like me. Boot is huge, took 4 of us plus camping kit with space to spare over the summer.
Missus has gone Bham to Brighton yesterday in it so 165 miles away. Its her 1st long trip solo and was abit anxious but she stopped at Cobham Ionity (not cheap) with 30% - quick loo stop and it was full after 15 mins! Will repeat charge at Cobham on way home. She sent me a txt saying how lovely the car was on a long journey (shes used to a petrol e-class convertible) and how easy Ionity charging was.
It will get better but be aware not all charging infrastructure is the same!

Chatting to a guy with an etron at the datacenter yesterday, great looking car but he was complaining about range, said he was getting less than 3 miles per kw. I also pointed him away from the low charge points to the couple of 11kw ones...
Poor range is very well publicised on the eTron, you'll be lucky to get 2.5 miles/kW in the 55 version with larger battery and more power. Not a car for lots of long trips, although the excellent charging speeds do help.
Ours arrives next month to replace the Model 3 and looking forward to it. Rarely venture further than a 200 mile round trip from home so public charging and outright range not a concern for us, and locked in to a cheap electricity tariff that means the inefficiency not going to be ruinous.
None of the bigger cars from a year or so ago are particularly efficient - my old Model S struggled to get below 350wh/m and could easily be nearer 400wh/m (Tesla rated it at 330). Probably a first or second generation thing and and they’ll get better. I know the iX has been ruled out but that seems to be sub 300. There is a limit to efficiency when these cars are said to be 90% efficient, if be battery/drive train is that efficient, you’re only going to improve things if you can reduce the load, better aero, lower resistance tyres etc..
Range however only really matters if you do enough miles in a day, and regularly enough, to need to charge away from home in one car and not in another.

2.25miles/ kW coming back from the airport the other night in the I pace Ours arrives next month to replace the Model 3 and looking forward to it.
