EV for very low mileage
Discussion
I'm looking for a car to get me to the station and back (3 mile round trip each day). Aside from the occasional other short trip locally, that's all it will be used for.
Given the low mileage, is it worth me looking at EVs? I just plugged some numbers into a journey cost calculator and it suggested it would save me £153 a year by having an EV. Not sure it's worth the additional up front cost unless I'm missing something?
Thanks.

For 1.5 miles each way, what about a pushbike, or a e-bike.
The spend the savings on something you like!
Yep I had considered that, but the wife and I have agreed the second car will be useful for the odd occasion when we both need to drive somewhere, or one car is unavailable (in for a service etc). The spend the savings on something you like!
If your only measure is fuel cost saving then definitely not.
There are however other benefits to be considered, especially with so many short journeys. Whether they justify the price difference only you can decide.
You also need to consider TCO over your ownership period (depreciation, VED, servicing etc.) rather than just purchase price.

You really ought to be cycling, walking or e-biking that.
30 minute walk at a quick pace.
10 minute cycle ride.
Walk isn't an option, total commute is already about 75 mins and don't want that any longer.30 minute walk at a quick pace.
10 minute cycle ride.
I am tempted by the e-bike option though, need to see how critical the wife thinks a second car is.

Should have added I'm looking at a lease, so depreciation and VED aren't relevant although servicing would be.
OK, so what cars are you comparing?XJ75 said:

Or a second hand super scooter? Depends on what the parking situation is, but you can get a cover for your legs and a waterproof jacket and you are good to go! Only on the worst of days would it be bad - at which you can use a car. Something like a Burgervan is probably a couple of grand for a cheap one and treat it as disposable. 30 minute walk at a quick pace.
10 minute cycle ride.
3mile round trip, left in a station carpark all day.
£1k tops on a small mid 2000s dev car like a fiesta and you'll pay £30 ved.
If stuck with ulez, same but petrol and pay a bit more ved.
When you get back to the station after a hard day and find a big dent / scraped bumper etc. You drive home without a care in the world about it!

1.5 miles really is only a 5 minute trip on any eBike regardless of traffic. The biggest issues with eBikes is they aren't cheap but easy to nick, so you really don't want to leave one at the station. You need a secured (locked) bike shed or a locked office you can keep the bike safe in at work.I've done 3000 miles now on my eBike, compared to any car its pocket change to own once you bought it. Though when its raining like mad I still use the car, and I get about 1 puncture every 6 months or so that I have to repair at the side of the road.

I agree with this, proper car but with a range that’s a bit short these days but sill last you for a week easily! If your second car only needs to do shortish trips it’s cheap motoring As for the OP, for the 1.5 mile, these might look silly but they are fun and convenient (you can easily put them in the car for example)

For that distance I always use the bike, skates, or the Onewheel

Honestly, getting a second car is almost a must in some cases (we have one for similar reasons you stated), but taking it out for a couple of km's seems silly!

They sound like a great idea until its pouring down, icy or snowing (which it is for 3-6 months of the year)
Grossly overstated tbh, it's 6 months if you calculate days with 1mm of rainfall. In most cases that's the time you want to be on the bike as well because traffic is even worse
