EVHS scheme ending March 21?
Discussion
I've read that the ev home charge scheme is coming to an end in March and those funds will be redirected to the landlords and rental market.
This puts me in a bit of a dilemma.
I privately rent, but have been granted permission to put an ev charger in by my landlord. Using the eligibility checker online this means I would currently receive the £350 grant.
The EV would be a company car, but the problem is my current company car isn't due for replacement until the end of March.
Should I push ahead now with my application for this grant or hold back and see what the new proposals will be next financial year? I don't want to "miss out" on the grant but equally it might be better to wait and see what this proposed solution is for the rental market. Is there any speculation or news regarding this?
I understand that as soon as I get my company car on order I can apply for this grant, I don't need to have taken delivery of the car. I also will need a letter from my employer stating as much. Has anyone any experience of how long this process is likely to take? I expect I'll pay the full amount to the installer then get the £350 back retrospectively, I assume I just have to get my application in before the end of March '21?
With EV charge point installers quoting 4-6 weeks for installation, I have a bit of time, but not much! Especially as I have to get UKPN to upgrade my main fuse in the meantime too...
Thanks for any advice in advance

Some answers for you:
Yes, end of march 22 for the home scheme
First thing to do is get your fuse upgraded to 100A. This is free to do and you need to call your DNO. Do it now.
Lead times vary by supplier, some can do much quicker than 4-6 weeks
The company car letter is a std one from OZEV. You just fill in the blanks and give it to the installer (who should provide you with this). This is all part of your installation process and won't delay anything.
Your OZEV approved installer will manage the grant and claim it back, you do not/cannot do this. Their price will take this into account.
There is speculation on the new OZEV grants but nothing concrete. I'd not wait if I were you.

Thanks Frimley111R,
I think I've read between the lines correctly on this forum and sent an enquiry over to Smart Home Charge this morning
I've been told that I can't have the 100A fuse fitted until the tails from isolator to consumer unit are upgraded. I've been quoted £110 to do this, so I'll get it done asap.
The guy from UKPN even left a 100A fuse behind when he visited to inspect the wiring, which was odd - but at least it's there ready to go!
I'll get these bits done asap. Hopefully it won't hold up my quotation, I couldn't see a section to provide additional notes such as this.

The changes in March '22 are also aimed at those in rental accommodation so you should be fine as long as you meet the other qualification criteria.
Regarding upgrading the main suppliers fuse, in six years as an EV chargepoint installer we have had one install where the fuse has had to be up'd and that was before the latest 'smart' chargepoints came in with load management.
I really wouldn't bother unless a qualified EV chargepoint installer has actually had a look at your electrical installation and told you it's required.

Just been assessed for the installation of a 7Kw charge point in our detached garage and the installer is perfectly happy with our 80A fuse, just has to notify the DNO once the installation is complete.
We are gas centrally heated/hot water with a gas hob and don't have electric showers. I drew up a list of our total current draw before his visit and it works out (before taking diversity into consideration) at 50.76A. This figure assumes that top and bottom ovens, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, TV and every single LED light fitting in the house are running at maximum output the same time. Also added the 3.6A of the CTEK charger in the garage that is usually running at a lower rate as a trickle charger.
Not much chance of us overloading the incoming supply (particularly when charging overnight) but would obviously depend on the circumstances of each individual installation.

There's currently a 60A main fuse and an installer and YouTube suggests getting this upgraded, especially as it's at no cost. Happy to be proven otherwise!
My consumer unit > isolator tails are currently really thin gauge wire too, I've been told to upgrade these before a higher amp fuse can go in.

Crikey, in the same period we've had loads!.

Get it changed before having an EV charger. My consumer unit > isolator tails are currently really thin gauge wire too, I've been told to upgrade these before a higher amp fuse can go in.

Also consider asking for a 100A double pole isolator switch if not already fitted. Just had a smart meter fitted and asked for this to be done at the same time (FOC again!) since he was pulling the main cut-out fuse anyway. I was a little disappointed that its not the metal version with a switch cover though as it's in a stair cupboard in daily use. This was on the 26th Oct and I'm still trying to get Scottish Power to register the meter. Very helpful lady on the phone told me that the details entered by the engineer at the time had disappeared into the ether but entered them manually while I was on the phone. Glad I started this in plenty of time as it looks like the whole process could take a while.
