You know how all the magazines do their driver’s car of the year at the moment (and the GT3 is winning everything). It would be cool to have a similar test done with EVs and maybe hybrids focusing on enjoyment. So nothing about charging, range, screen size, and lease rates and that usual stuff that seems to dominate anything to do with EVs. Or maybe do a third EV, a third hybrid, and a third ICE and see how they stack up. It will probably be ICE -> hybrid -> EV in all likelihood but would be interesting to see a comparison none the less. And maybe one day the order will change, if more car manufacturers start to prioritise enjoyment as a differentiator.

You mean ignore the things people think are important?

2030 I would say unless evo suddenly decides to start pushing EVs. I think they should have at least one EV in the mix now just to see how they fare eg whatever the latest Porsche one is. It’d be interesting!

The Cayman GT4 won ECOTY (EVO car of the year) in 2019.

Once they are all you can buy. Given the option I struggle to believe a group of enthusiasts will ever choose an EV over an ICE/PHEV when the only measures are driving enjoyment and involvement on a great driving road.

I think, though, the fact that most ICE cars are getting heavier and less involving with a lot of things like automatic gearboxes, electric steering, fake exhaust sounds, various emissions control mechanisms that make engines less involving, etc means that they will meet in the middle at some point which is why I think it's worth doing the exercise even now. But really for evo it's more of a business decision and that will determine how they deal with it. If they think they will make more money on plugging EVs then that's what they will do and I suspect they will get there soon enough given that this is where all the investment and marketing (and most importantly advertising spend) is at and evo needs to decide if it's feasible to be on the other side of that line. They have somehow gotten over that the 911 isn't all that interesting to drive anymore so I'm sure they can get over this too. Anyways, I'm interested in seeing how this is going to play out. And evo isn't the only magazine doing these car of the year tests so any of them can start including EVs. The SF-90 has obviously been part of most of these this year so PHEV's are making an appearance at least. I see no reason why a Taycan couldn't be added to the mix or a Tesla Model 3 Performance or some such.

E= "European" not "EVO"

OP is DMZ. Question about ECOTY was posed by DeadlySub and answered by Rob Dickinson. I was clarifying.

The answer is probably "when there is an electric 911 or RenaultSport", surely?
