Toyota hybrid what is battery life and cost of replacing
Discussion
You can find Prius's (is that right?) around with reduced or nearly dead batteries around. Usually have very high mileage and a lack of maintenance, but they are there and they do run - just not very economically! There is even a number of specialists who can replace the batteries for a cost effective price to keep these old clunkers on the road and driving!
The drawback is that you get the worst of both worlds though. Extra weight, lack of power and increased fuel use. But they do run.

If a hybrid s battery fails can car be driven and how much to replace battery.
I ask this to help people forced to buy secondhand hybrids due to new ULEZ rules
No, you can't drive it if battery is completely dead. It cost about 2 thousand to replace with brand new battery. Battery lasts 10+ years in Toyota hybrids.I ask this to help people forced to buy secondhand hybrids due to new ULEZ rules
We've had our Prius for over 10yrs and 83k, varied driving and several trips to the south of France from Edinburgh at 80-90 mph. Never had less than 60mpg, often 75-80 mpg. Its never seen the inside of a garage except for MOT's and I've not noticed any drop in electric range. Whole batteries rarely need replaced as faulty modules can be easily identifed and replaced individually. The only issue I've ever had was with the original 12v AGM (7 yrs ago) and this appears to be a common failure among hybrids and EV's.
Pick a well cared for example and you won't have much to worry about other than Cat thieving barstewards.

There are a few places round now doing reconditioned batteries and replacement battery units (instead of the whole pack). If you do find yourself in that situation it's worth looking round the forums for them, think there was talk of one here or on Lexus Owners Club.Gassing Station | EV and Alternative Fuels | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
