How much typically do people pay per kW for charging on public networks?

Lots of different prices ranging from free to 69p/kwh (probably more but the most expensive I've used)

If you use Zap-Map it shows you the cost of the specific chargers, although not sure how up to date they are.

I only ever use public chargers on one journey, 3 times a year (Cov to St Ives) as everywhere else i use my granny charger and good will of the home owner where i'm staying

43c/kWh via Electrify America - thats the non-subscription price.

And yes, thats stupidly expensive....

Though its worth noting that peak rate PG&E rate is 41c/kWh - this kicks in when you go over your allocated amount on high usage months. Usually its 33c. MF's increased the prices last year by 15% and reduced everyones allocation per household. Who knew that a monopoly was a bad idea.....

Crap journalism…. It’s not £4 per kw/h in the Cotswolds, and I bet they’ve made the same mistake with the others too banghead

It’s £4 to charge for up to an hour at a rapid charger, so as much power as your car can take in an hour and the parking is included. After the hour, if you want to stay in the car park you need to move to a normal space.

On the agile streets green charging bits we are paying 19p per Kw at the moment to charge while the Wife is at work. Most expensive chargers around here are 45p per Kw for 50 Kw chargers, not a lot above 50 Kw about unless it’s a Tesla super charger.

I'd assumed that might be the case as the suggestion it would cost £240 to fully charge the average EV seemed a little much. smile

Mind you just seen this tweet from some poor sod.

https://twitter.com/TheDarkStormy1/status/14957295...

TL:DR Just paid £35 for a charge only to get fined £100 for overstaying by 4 and a half minutes.

There's more detail plus a typical social media style 'pile on the OP' to make it all his fault if you can face dealing with that side of things.

Traveling through Europe last summer (I don't charge public otherwise), fast chargers seemed to be EUR ~45c/kwh, while regular public chargers EUR ~35c/kwh.
Tesla SuC seemed in between those on most places (if you drive a Tesla).

Cost me £4.38 for 11.2 kWh yesterday at a PodPoint charger.

I think though, they're time based rather than energy based. It was on the charger for about 4hrs and 20 minutes, so about £1/hr. Better if you have 22 kW ability I guess. This was a PHEV and only capable of 7kW.

Edit:

Checked on the app. It was on charge at 10:37 and then I couldn't get back to it till 3pm.

According to the app they charge £1/hr for the first 3 hrs. Then £3/hr. I don't know if you have to be charging or whether that is just being connected to the post. So the £3/hr is to deter you from leaving it on the post all day.

I guess it only charges you whilst actually charging because the car said it would be done around 1330pm, but when I went to check it had changed to about 1350pm.

So 3 hrs takes us from 1030am to 1330pm and then 20-25mins at £3/hr just about gets you to £4 total.

about 40p/kWh given it took 11.2 kWh
