Ok, so this popped up on my Facebook today:

https://www.racechip.us/pedal-box/the-range-extend...

Racechip are a company that does have a pretty good reputation, if a little exaggerated. But really? I have to say that my BS sense is going haywire at this point.

Let me get this right, a black box that changes the throttle inputs on an EV make the range better? Who would have guessed. Did they try putting it into an ECO mode? Or maybe not getting on the throttle as much? Can’t see that any EV manufacturer hasn’t does as much as they can to get this but right. I mean, it’s an obvious area of small, but significant improvements.

Our i3 has a couple of modes that backs off the throttle and other electric draining features like the aircon. Makes a small difference in reality. Maybe 10% at best, if you can handle not having the heating / cooling on. But just being a little more progressive with the throttle makes the biggest improvement.

No prices at the moment from what I could see, but really? Oh well, here we go - third party solutions to things we didn’t need. I guess it was to be expected.

It's not really tuning in the way most would think of it though? And not sure I'd trust a third party box getting in the middle of a drive by wire throttle system personally, sounds like a recipe for disaster for the sake of a proposed 7% improvement in range.

I want a mod that dumps a whole bunch of cell's worth of energy instantly into the motor while making a big futuristic warp-drive sound and shooting sparks on throttle lift-off, fast and the furious style,

Simple answer: NO

If you want to drive further per unit of energy in your BEV, don't waste money on a stupid box to remap your driver demand, simply press less on the accelerator!! You'll be driving slower of course, but that's the same with a remapped pedal, because to drive the same speed as before you'll have to just press more!

I love it that it will also reduce your CO2 footprint.
