London congestion charge - leased Tesla

I want to drive into London in my Tesla. Driving and parking is significantly cheaper than the train for 4 of us.
I understand that I can effectively ignore the ULEZ, but the Congestion Charge still applies.

There is a 'cleaner vehicle exemption' for which one can register. My problem is that the process requires one to upload the V5C - my Tesla is leased so I don't have a V5C; the lease company retain it.

Anyone know a work around? Or am I just doomed to pay £15?

Why do they not automatically recognise that it's electric and apply the discount??? (I know the answer really).

You will have to pay it until YOU prove the Tesla is an EV.

All a bit of a joke really, but you will need to send them a copy of the V5 even if it’s just a picture.

The lease company should just email it to you.

I was in the same boat and contacted them, they accepted a copy of the lease agreement along with the £10 and all sorted.

I'm confused by your question. You've said that your Tesla will be exempt from any ULEZ charges but you will be liable to pay the Congestion Charge. As I understand things, that is correct. You'll either pay a £15.00 or £17.50 Congestion Charge depending upon when you pay.

The Cleaner Vehicle Discount replaces the Ultra Low Discount (ULED) charges but that has nothing to do with congestion. You won't be eligible for that anyway because your Tesla produces no emissions.

As far as I'm aware, when you register your car on the tfl website, you'll enter the reg number of your car and the website will do the rest. It will recognise the car as a Tesla and will charge you (for the Congestion Charge) accordingly. I don't think there'll be any need to send the V5 to anyone.

No you are wrong.

The way to do it is.

1. Register the car on the TFL website (£10.00 per year).

2. Fill in the form within the car details page which they will need you to attach a copy of the V5 to prove it is an EV to get full discount on the ULEZ. (Stupid really as they already know it’s an EV as the amount to pay on the CC comes up as zero automatically)

If you don’t do the above you will be charged for the ULEZ and fined if you you don’t pay it.

That maybe the process for the Congestion Charge Zone, but for ULEZ you don't have to do anything.

This is correct. If your vehicle is ULEZ compliant you don't need to do anything.

Just ask your lease co to do it for you. I think the one that provided our company Tesla did it for £20.

We just found this out, having driven into the horror that is central London recently.

Apparently some peeps supplied a screenshot of the online enquiry ilo the V5 and that was accepted.

I have to do this soon as we’re due for a trip to the museums soon, and EV is much cheaper than BR.

However, what a shambolic arrangement, and possibly all you need to know about bureaucracy wanting to create more work despite IT doing it all already. Total arseache.
