The world has gone mad. Just over a year ago I paid £46k with discount for the Project 45, have car prices gone up so much?

Lookers often do this with their demonstrators that they are not able to sell yet.

Having dealt with Lookers in the past, I would simply ignore their adverts and go elsewhere.

Agree, paying >£50k for a Nissan EV makes me shake my head in disbelief.

They start at £46k up to £60k for the top spec, before options. They are apparently pretty decent cars though.

I think when MG bring the Marvel R to to the UK its going to fly off the shelves for over £10K less (£34k) MG admitted they misjudged how popular their new range was going to be when they decided not to bring it here the same time as European sales.

Hyundai and Kia charge £50k+ for mid range EV's with less space and smaller battery packs. Proce does like rather off, but far from ridiculous in 2022 I'm afraid.

The high lst prices are helping manufacturers justify crazy lease prices, with many EV's going to company car drivers. The top of the range Ariya on a 3 year 36k month lease is £1k a month..

I'm never quite sure which cars compete with what with EVs but the Kia Niro EV starts at just under £37k and the plug in hybrid Sporatage £36k. The EV6 starts at £43.5k. I wouldn't be walking into a Nissan garage over the competition. MG are the ones to watch, they can't be making much profit on their cars, almost buying themselves market share.

My ioniq project 45 wasn’t midrange- it cost £46k with every option

I have long assumed the bill of materials in EVs are pretty similar so it’s not surprising they all cost the same. All the simplification leads to very similar kit underneath. There’s obviously some badge margin still and people (including myself no doubt) convincing themselves that those badges mean something so presumably easier to sell an Audi Qashqai than a Nissan Qashqai.

Or similar sized EVs that cost less than the Nissan.

My comment was in regards to the EV market as a whole. The Ioniq 5 and EV6 are both mid range cars and have multiple models available at £50k+ if you want a decent spec, AWD and larger 77kWh battery. The P45 was a launch spec, limited run car that is no longer available for purchase with the equivelant fully optioned Namsan edition now costing £56k.

I can't see the Marvel R being £34k. The top spec ZS EV is £34,495.

I think it'll be £39k at best.

People seem to forget that inflation has risen over the last year, and in some countries, it's risen to levels even higher than here.

I don't understand what all the shock and horror is when it comes to car prices in 2022. Everything has become more costly.

Do these not get bought by the self employed with Ltd companies as they can be written off against tax? I was chatting to a chap last week who has a Tesla on order and was bragging about how it’ll be free due to tax breaks or something?

Car prices have risen massively above inflation for all sorts of reason.

This isn’t inflation it’s market positioning, the price competes with some serious German stuff - the parcel shelf makes me shudder at this level.

Is that named after comics or dried milk?

It's a lot of money to put something on your drive that says you can't afford anything nicer.
