Having owned Land Rovers for 20+ years, we just couldn’t put up with the horrific reliability any longer…

My wife called time on the JLR love affair after our 3yr old D5 detonated its engine and the local dealer took nearly 4 months to fix.

So… we picked up our Tesla MY LR on Friday and gosh what a breath of fresh air!

We’ve both driven about 70miles each this weekend and very much enjoyed the pre-set ‘departure’ time priming of cabin heat in this cold weather.

Our children say the visibility from the rear seats is better than any of our previous cars. They also love the gadgets/games.

We’re only 2 days into ownership (fingers crossed it’s more reliable than our previous cars), but based upon initial impressions I can’t see why we’d ever go back to an ICE/Hybrid car for daily duties.

I have to say, the Zappi charger is very addictive watching when you see Solar power being redirected into the car.

Praising Tesla on here.....hope its the bottle speaking!! Go and wash your mouth out right now!!

Don't you know hydrogen is the answer, or even better just use synthetic fuels. I hope you realise what an error in judgment you have made by wasting your money on a milk float smile.

Brand new? A lot being said about improved ride quality on the Model Y recently.

As posted above, you're not supposed to be happy with your EV! wink

But I get it, my mate just got a Y LR too and he's very happy with it. JLR used to be one of my clients and I do love their cars, they're very desirable on paper and in the flesh but the the ownership experience once the warranty is up is questionable to say the least.

I currently have a £80k+ iPace and when the number plate fell off (as it did when I test drove an F type, along with the letter 'J' on the rear of the car (I returned is as an 'aguar'..) I didn't even bother to take it back to the dealer, I just glued it back on myself. It's never worth dealing with Jag when things go wrong unless you really have too..

I love pretty much all current and past JLR (not the ford stuff) cars on many levels, but I'll never have one without at least an aftermarket warranty.

Your Tesla on the other hand? There's simply not much to go wrong is there? And the general feedback is that other than some early years fit and finish complaints, reliability of now nearly ten year old examples has been great. Enjoy!

I’m completely with you on the love for JLR products. I just wish the ownership experience was tolerable!

Yes brand new. I read about the harsh ride, especially with the 20” wheels that we opted for. It’s too soon to comment, but it doesn’t feel as harsh as I had feared. Will report back after a bit more mileage…

‘Drank the kool-aid’ is not a good thing, by the way…

But welcome to the EV world. We won’t go back!

It's just a shame they won't allow the option of air suspension and variable damping on the Y. Not a clue why, people are willing to pay and are even retro-fitting air suspension..

But as a passive setup, to be fair, it's a good compromise between firm and not too firm now.

I don't know if my experience with JLR is unique but in the decades we've had Land/Ranger Rovers, we had only one issue.
That was a flat battery on an Evoque, sorted with a software update.

We're on our third EV now and wont be going back to ICE for the family car.
Still have my TVR for the weekend but starting to feel I don't need that anymore.

We've also had JLR cars with zero issues, like all modern cars they're generally very reliable and well built.

But I bet a JLR car is at least twice as likely to develop a fault of some kind compared to, say, a Toyota.

For an up to date reference, my iPace has had just one fault in three years, the power tailgate failed and slowly, and silently... started to drop back down until it hit me on the head. Annoying/slightly amusing but not a huge deal and a quick fix at the dealer. My business partner on the other hand suffered a failed heater in the winter which lead to the car being off the road for weeks whilst they removed the entire battery pack in order to access the faulty heater element. Her power tailgate also failed and a faulty component was tripping a battery health alarm and putting the car into crawl home mode which also had to be fixed.

It's a mixed bag! But I'm about to swap my iPace for another one so obviously the overall experience is worth it smile

I wish this had been our experience! The last three JLR cars we've purchased new (XF SportBrake, Disco Sport, Disco5) have all suffered terribly with reliability issues between yrs 2-4 of ownership and once over 30k miles. Thankfully all resolved under warranty (eventually). The inconvenience / anxiety of impending failure forced our hand.

We did look at the iPace briefly (didn't test drive) but felt it wasn't quite on par with the Tesla MY in terms of internal space (in particular rear head room) / cost / range. Add on our ownership history and you can see how we reached our decision. If JLR launched a fully EV F-Type, I suspect my current brand sabbatical would be ended pretty quickly! :-)

We've failed twice to correctly charge the car on an overnight schedule to use the cheap rate, so still haven't quite mastered EV ownership.

A lot of us waiting for a full sized JLR EV SUV! All those promises of full electrification of the brand by 2025 and all they've done in that time is cancel the planned EV XJ and sack off the guy running the show.

Weird they've made no progress in the EV direction following on from the very well received and successful ipace.
