Got excited as I assumed this would be in the UK, thought perhaps someone had imported a few already.

I saw two in the UK this week, in a private location. Apparently the first two in the UK? One was a pickup and one a hardtop. Quite striking-looking, you're not going to mistake them for something else.

I was told that they can't currently be registered or used in the UK either although the specific reason wasn't given. Don't know if that's correct. Some sort of type approval thing perhaps, although you'd think Rivian would be on top of that if they intend to sell them over here?

Seen quite a lot of them around Chicago since around the summer, to the point of them not being noteworthy anymore. R1T’s (the SUV) and Lucid’s are also popping up more and more. Nice vehicles.

R1T is on my list, but only once you don’t have to lose your dignity to get one.

There are 2 in my little area / town! Both the same color, but with slightly different trim colors. Very recognizable with those lights and they do look “quality”. There are a bunch of F-150 Lightnings too. Lots of Tesla’s, but more and more non-Tesla’s appearing.

As for going to the UK, did I not read that Rivian has delayed a launch? Or was it Lucid? Can’t remember and cant find the article, but it’s one of them. Electric cars are easier to make in LHD and RHD, but I suspect its more a case of providing the service and making money.

The current Rivian wont be imported for sale in the UK, but will be seen in other parts of Europe.
The main problem being the weight, at 7100 ish lbs it would require a C1 licence (unless you're old like me and have grandfather rights).

There is a plan to bring a lighter weight version over at some point IF the business becomes successful, but that will no doubt have smaller battery and less power.

All of the above comes directly from Rivian. so isn't hearsay
I was lucky enough to have a play with one earlier in the year and it was great fun.

GVW 3870kg. Alternatively fuelled vehicles are allowed upto 4250kg on a Cat B. If used privately there's no further requirement. If used commercially then there's a short commercial course that needs to be completed.

When you see one compared to a normal pickup t does not look too bad:

Dimensions it is slightly offer than a Ford Ranger (a relatively large vehicle for UK roads still) but significantly smaller than an F150.

Although the size may be more suitable than a full size American truck in the UK there is a fail IMO with the front loadspace. The bonnet opens at the top of the front panel so your luggage dissappears into a black hole from which you then have to somehow retrieve it.

.
That makes no sense at all as the weight limits for standard car driver licences were brought in by and across the entire EU not just the U.K. as part of the European Community Licences Directive

The same rules apply in every EU ( and former EU ) country
