A team of engineers from ETH Zürich and Lucerne University of Applied Science have taken back the world recors for the fastest accelerating electric car!
The car is named "mythen" has 240 kW (326 PS) and weighs only 137kg. The driver, Kate Maggetti, hit 100 km/h in just 0.956s and in only 12.3m!!!

This is incredible news and as a Swiss I'm happy to see this record going back to Switzerland wink

Congratulations to the whole team for achieving this !!

Also great to see a female driver doing it! We need more women in motorsports driving

its interesting that when you're travelling for less than a second, aerodynamics are basically a non-issue so the thing doesn't look fast. I wonder how quickly something similar could tick off the 1/4 mile

Love it. Who'd think a 0-60 world record attempt could take place on a tennis court? biggrin

It's saying something that this is one of the less interesting Formula Student-type cars biggrin Brilliant engineering abound.

Im a massive supporter of women in motorsport, this isnt motorsport tho.
Yes its fast to 60, but its a bit of a non record tho, make it 200mph or something then that would be cool.

It's interesting how women are good at this thing - the FIA European top fuel dragster championships are dominated by women these days.

137kg bodes very well in my book! Wonder how much of that lightness is actually transferrable to road cars?

It's arguably the main performance metric quoted in the UK for my entire life (recently evolved to 62). I'd say it's definitely a real record.

0-60 and top speed were on all my Top Trumps cards.

This will sound silly but I would have thought a car with >2000bhp per tonne would be a little faster.

They're a lot lighter, generally. Sideways G-forces (e.g. requirement for serious neck muscles) not a requirement, etc. Sounds like a pretty natural fit.

I guess it's a bit like how most 'fast' bikes all have similar 0-60 times. The first two seconds are 0-10mph and then they actually start to take off. Being electric, this thing will be able to modulate power much, much more accurately than an ICE, hence the mega launch, but you're still working against the laws of physics.

I can't comment on how things are in top fuel, but I'd imagine the main criteria on this record was that she was the lightest member of the team

This is good news for being able to pull out of junctions quickly.

The best drag cars (wheel-on-tarmac, no rockets or such...) would be upwards of 90mph @ 1s, so in a formula libre such as this there's quite a lot of potential yet to be realised!

I was fortunate to work on and drive one of these cars in the past and the acceleration and all round performance is incredible.

Have to say, that looked nothing like I expected for some reason! It's like a go-kart with fairings - I was thinking top fuel dragster getmecoat

Seriously impressive given they developed absolutely everything on the car and got the record back from zee Germans.
