On our quest in na search for a new to us car, we have been offered a 21 plate Golf GTE with 90k on the clock for 15k at a VW specialist.

Went and looked it over and seemed very clean, with a complete VW service history etc.

The only thing in the back of my mind is the battery warranty will soon be up once it hits 100k, so that could potentially be ruinous.

What d'ya reckon?

Does the VW extended warranty cover the battery or anything over 100k?

The battery wouldn’t worry me, the gearbox and electric motor would.

I don’t think it has an extended warranty?

I think the battery is covered for 100k miles or ten years.

I guess a call to a dealer might be in order.

Steve, in what way would they concern you?

The gearbox has had a fluid change at VW at 40k and 80k.

It is a bit of a toss up between this or a 2019 GTD with full VW history that has just turned 80k but has never had a DSG service.

Search on Golf GTE Gearbox, i had a quick look before going petrol and it looks like a complicated set up of the hybrid motor is within the gearbox and can and does fail. The battery seems to be the least of its problems.
