New Nissan Leaf starting under £30K!
Discussion
Apparently it qualifies for the full gov grant and looks a lot like a newer version of the Ariya.

Sub £30K for the entry level and the long range model can do .. 386 miles.

How do they give a car that takes near 8 seconds a 5 star rating for performance, yet in the nissan skyline g34 and tesla model 3 reviews they give 4 stars?https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-reviews/nissan/l...

Does look good, and perhaps the pricing is a reflection of the cost of Chinese rivals.
I won't be buying one, but I might well be buying the 64kwh second gen when it gets into £10k territory.
(I have a ifirst gen, it's been great, but I want longer range now. Considering a few cars, have been for a while. Part of the 'problem' with EVs is that they keep getting better, so deciding on a used buy isn't easy).

Those range figures look very optimistic, even by WLTP EV standards. That short range version is claiming to average 5.2 miles/kWh! To their credit at least Nissan are admitting the long range car will only do around 200-250 miles at motorway speeds.
Looks well judged overall, especially if they can get it under £30k (the Car article estimates £33k entry). Shame it's FWD.

Why, what actual real world difference does that make?Looks well judged overall, especially if they can get it under £30k (the Car article estimates £33k entry). Shame it's FWD.

Every FWD EV I've driven has struggled for traction if driven remotely enthusiastically. Probably not going to matter to most buyers, admittedly. Jazoli said:
Not sure if serious?
It doesn t have to be faster than a Model 3 to score more, it s all relative.
Yes I'm serious. What's the point of a rating system if it bears no correlation with other scores so can't be compared? Does it's overall 4 stay rating mean it's pretty good against all other cars, or is it 4 star compared to just the previous crappy Nissan leaf, which means it's a minor improvement and therefore still crap compared to the competition? If you got an A in gcse French, is that worse than someone who got a D but was expected to fail "because it's all relative"? It doesn t have to be faster than a Model 3 to score more, it s all relative.

Anyway, looks like a decent effort from Nissan to me! They've obviously got real about the fact that EV's need to be affordable if they're to stand a chance against the Chinese brands, and they've made a car at a suitable price point to compete. Looks fine to me and has strong range. For the masses that just want 'a car', it's probably a very good choice.
