I checked my KIA EV6 which is now on 31,000 miles after 3 years and was impressed to find it had only lost 2.7% in that time.

Given that the rate of degradation is higher in the first year and then slows down that bodes well for a useful life of at least 300,000 miles!

Putting the words EV and battery in a thread title, hmm.
That might even pass for trolling.
May as well get it out of the way then:

Sorry, according to the real, genuine and infallible PH experts, your battery will fail catastrophically and probably in flames, by 25,000 miles. And accelerate, change direction and honk at nuns on bicycles in a completely random manner.

You have been warned.

31,000 miles you say.

The anti-EV cannon fodder say you should be on your 3rd battery by now.

Surprisingly well balanced!

hehe

Mind you I don’t agree with not servicing cars. At least flush / replace the fluid.

But it’s really cheap to service, £300 every 2 years.

My 2019 BMW I3S had a battery report done by Wisely Automotive as part of the biannual service last April.

It looks quite healthy.

Meanwhile an area approximately the size of England in Canada has been subjected to this to extract oil from tar sands. It was a pristine wilderness.

(Image from a few seconds of Googling got me to Greenpeace

The difference is the lithium in the batteries can be reused whereas when the oil is burnt it's gone.

I not sure what that information means. Current logic as you say is the early life it degrades quickly and then the curves smooth out to slower rate as you say. This is based on cycles and is effect by temperature. I don’t see the number of cycles and temperature data to base an assessment on. I suspect like you the battery will be more than good if you managed 300,000. Most cars never do much over half that and survive 20 years. Not sure how to predict the battery condition for that .

It’s mainly AC cycles which probably helps so I m encouraged by that .

Does this info add anything please?

(Btw the high number of ac charge sessions is probably because when it’s plugged into solar it will turn on and off frequently as the sun varies I imagine.)

It dropped 1.5% in the first year ir so and then has levelled off

Your battery will soon fail and have to be buried in a land fill under a rescue centre for puppies and kittens.

Hopefully sodium batteries will put an end to lithium. Maybe ban them by 2050 also.

This thread prompted me to check used prices for EV6. I hadn't checked for a while but from memory the cheaper cars at 30k/40k miles have lost very little value over the past 12 months.
