Experience on this much appreaciated

Getting an Ioniq 5N

comes with PZeros which are apparently terrible

Its a 2 year BCH

Total cost to add maintenance is cominh in around £600 - I know they don't require maintenance in a 2 year window - however it includes tyres

1 set of tyres and I am basically in profit

I am trying to confirm if I Can get alternative tyres fitted at the point mine are bust - theyve said they get replaced at 2mm

they seem to be saying its down to lease company and it sounds like im not gonna get a proper, written committment on this but what are people's experiences of getting tyres sorted on a maintenance deal and I don't even know how it works - can I go get them fitted and then invoice the lease company or do I have to take it back to Hyundai or the lease company directly to get it done?

I am new to this and also speaking to Hyundai but any advice much appreciated

I would ALSO be interested in any experience of the maintenance deals coveing anything else? Cant imagine what could come up on an EV in 24 month s

Yeah they would not authorize changing tryes that are over 2mm, been there and had that, then it's down to what milage you do. Would be nice to have the cabin filter changed thu.

I have a brake fluid change and cabin filter. every couple of years. Total cost about £120 with an independent.

Personally I'm willing to take the risk of not having a maintenance contract as the battery has an 8 year warranty.

I like to shop around for tyres anyway.

Unless I've missed it you've not said how many miles you're doing - that would be key to whether this is value.

I do 20k a year so maintenance via my lease company is great value, if I was doing 5k a year it wouldnt stack up.

Yep

I'm the latter hence I'm not willing to pay what I consider an excessive rate.

I don't do many miles probably 5k but have heard it should eat tyres plus so far I've been advised I can track it (need to get written confirmation) in which case imagine it wouldn't take many laps of Bedford before I needed a new set

There may be a "fair usage" term in the maintenance contact - when I had leased company cars they expected the tyres to last 30K. I had one replacement front pair that lasted 7K but I didn't choose them so told them to sod off. I can't for the life of me imagine the lease firm will cheerfully replace tyres on a car they know has been tracked.

ETA: I also can’t imagine they’ll OK it being tracked.

I’d ask them what price bracket of tyres they’d fit. The Pirellis are widely disliked, but if their policy is to fit budget tyres you might be jumping from the frying pan into the fire.

Also check the small print of the maintenance contract, I’d be surprised if they replaced the tyres due to wear after only a couple of thousand miles. I know in mine there’s a clause around excessive/unusual wear. No idea how often it gets enforced though.

Does the package cover brakes too if you're going to track it?

EVs have very low brake wear on the road due to the regen doing a lot of the work but I would imagine you'll be using the mechanical brakes a lot more on track.

My experience with company (lease) cars has been that the lease company has a contract with the likes of Kwik Fit, ATS or similar. You can’t just fit what you like, where you like and claim the cost back (in my experience).

I never had any choice of tyre brand and what was fitted seemed to depend on what was in stock and pricing. Fortunate to always have ‘premium’ tyres and over the years had Bridgestone, Michelin and Good Year fitted. Also had a set of Hankook several years ago and I’d argue they were more mid-range at the time, so you may find the likes of Nexen, Kumho et al creeping in.

Who has said you can track it? I’d be amazed if a lease company would let you track their car. I’ve often seen newish cars on track days with their number plates covered and have always thought that would be one of the reasons.

That of course very much depends on how its driven. smile

The novelty of instant torque is persistent with many drivers, and so they shred the tyres quicker. I've done over 10k miles in my Honda eNy1 (not the performance of a 5N of course), its FWD and after 10k miles, the front tyres still have 6mm of tread. I do almost all mine in ECO mode, honest. wink

Get used to the Ackerman effect on the front!
Yes PZeros are terrible until they're warm, plan to change as soon as I can, I purposely didn't take maintenance so I could decide when and what to change to.
