If you have a Renault (Scenic for me) and are on Intelligent Octopus Go then it’s possible you’re using the Mobilize Smart Charge app which acts as a middle man between Octopus and the car. Many times I have plugged the charger into the car and Mobilize still thinks it’s unplugged which means Octopus also does not know it’s plugged in so won’t create a charge schedule. Instead the car just starts charging straightaway and I need to go back, unplug it and try again. If you don’t keep on top of this and just assume a schedule has been created it could prove expensive. Our in home display for electricity is easy to see which is how I know it’s charging straightaway.

Note - this isn’t the same as when everything is working and it does draw power for a few minutes till Octopus stops it.

Similar issue with Renault 5 that needs Mobilize to manage charging because of a bug in the car software goes to sleep between scheduled charge slots and refuses to wake. I don't trust Mobilize to always get it right it often seems to start charging straight away for a bit then wait for the schedule, negating any saving.

Intelligent Octopus Go is always cheap 11:30pm to 5:30am I additionally create a schedule on the charger between these times. When plugged in Octopus still creates schedules and Mobilize tries to charge but is blocked from doing so until 11:30pm. Seems to work fine though obviously you are limiting charge window.

Am just about to start doing this with the Wife's A290. Is the fix not available yet from Renault/Alpine?

This is what I do now, I’ve actually switched off smart charging in Mobileze and just set a 11.30-5.30 schedule in the car. No doubt I’ll hear from Octopus at some point when they realise they aren’t controlling it.

The whole remote apps thing with Renault is rubbish. Right now, most of the time I try and set the climate control using the app, I get an error message - even though sometimes it does actually work despite getting an error message. I know other users are having the same issue. A YouTuber, Wakey Warrior, has done a long term review of the Scenic and he also states how rubbish the app is. I rarely had any such problems with Tesla and BMW. It’s beyond me how they get something as basic as this so wrong.

It’s also annoying that if you want to use the car’s on board modem for WiFi, music streaming etc, you have to use the Orange network and pay a fortune for it. I know most people will tether or use CarPlay but that’s not always as convenient and for me it doesn’t always connect to my phone properly first time.

Have you got an Ohme charger by any chance? I've got a Hyundai, not a Renault, but I'm having similar issues.

I'm told you need to smart charge once a month to keep Octopus off your back but frankly I'm not sure the penny saving is worth the hassle.

Have you tried Kelec app? I find it more reliable launching climate control.

I used to have a Scenic E-Tech, an Ohme charger and Intelligent Octopus Go.

Binned off Mobilize and used the Ohme app to act as the middleman betweeen Octopus and the car. Worked fine that way, with all charging requirements set in the Ohme app.

I have an Andersen A2 charger so Octopus doesn’t have any interaction with that - it’s permanently on. I know with some installations Octopus controls the charger rather than the car but for me it’s the car.

I have Kelec but I think ultimately it has to access the car via the same servers that My Renault app uses so it’s proving unreliable for climate control recently also.
