I’m going to be leasing an EV very soon, so have started looking at home chargers.

There’s a grant from the government (link below), one of the requirements is that you have leased the car for at least 6 months.

Does this mean I’ll have to use the car for 6 months before I can get the charger installed?

Anyone have any better ideas? Just use a 3 pin for 6 months and wait it out?

Pretty sure it just needs to be a 6 month lease term or longer.

E.g. to stop you renting an EV for a week to get the grant.

A few years ago when the grant was for homeowners, I had it installed before the car was delivered, but had to prove I had one coming.

Did you ‘buy’ yours (pcp etc) or was it leased?
The rules don’t stipulate a time owned if you buy. Only if you lease?

I wonder if this supersedes the 6 month min lease time?
I feel like the got one on order rule applies to if you have bought the car…

For reference, here are the terms I’m referring to.

-as a registered owner
-if you’ve leased one for at least 6 months
-if you’ve used one as a work vehicle for at least 6 months
-if you’ve currently got one on order

I have a independent freehold garage 200 yards from my house there is power in the pavement but quoted £5k to run power, would I be eligible?

I’d say not eligible. The grant is for tenants of rental properties that they live in. If you own the house, then you’re not eligible for a grant.

Plus the grant appears to be around £350. Hooking your garage up to the grid will be waaaay more than this.

It does look odd, especially with the reference to using one from work for 6 mths.

But surely you'd be OK as long as the lease contract was greater than 6 mths. Or, as you say, having one on order would be OK - you still order a lease.

Have you tried filling in the application- I can't see it without logging in - maybe things become clearer there?

Mine was leased.

Think of it as "minimum 6 month lease contract" not "must have had it for 6 months already".

Ok, that sounds more like it! Cheers.
