For a whole host of reasons we're having a year off this year.

We're planning in trying to put something together at this end so we can at least try and make the best of it.

So, what sort of set up should we go for?

Any advice from other stay in the UK fans most welcome.

Having gone over late (Thursday) last year and having watched the Wednesday Qualifying session on the television rather than in the flesh as every other year since 1998, my advice is to ignore the event entirely otherwise you'll just wish you were there.

I missed 2003 as my dad was too ill (2002 was his last trip) so we never saw the Bentley Boy win.
I felt dirty whenever I tried to catch something on the web or TV for a few snatched minutes.

I kind of agree, it is hard not being there.

In 2009 I missed it due to an op about 2 weeks before. I was having daily nurse visits to pack an open wound but still managed to camp in the garden with my lad, drink cider till I saw double and watched live Le Mans sat in the garden with the bbq cooking dodgy meat.

The plan at the mo is to camp in a mate's Dad's field, drink too much and eat crappy food.

Hopefully a big screen will help, as will poor toilet facilities!

Would it be cheating to visit the local curry house for our evening meal?

No - as long as you walk in with a toilet roll in your hand.

I used to go every year but have not been for a while.

Always watch it on Eurosport not .. as they have 24hr coverage.

Big advantage is the local show / loo are way way better smile

I've been every year since 2000 (and a handful of times previous to that) but am taking a year off this year. Also planning a LM party. Not really sure what it'll include other than very little sleep and what sleep I do get will be in the tent, getting very drunk on Stella in plastic glasses ala the bar at Tetre Rouge, over priced cheap quality champagne whilst sat on flimsy plastic chairs, playing loud music on the portable Bose speakers whilst listening to Radio Le Mans and having a barbie.

Considering an early morning blast punctuated by stops at MacDonalds in honour of the journey there (minus les BiB thankfully!) Would stickering the car up with 'Not the 24 Hueres Du Mans' be a bit OTT?!

we've done the LM party route for the past 2 races, we had to miss last years due to one of teh crew being unavailable and swapped to the GT24 at the Ring 9 ukm def not the same type of atmosphere - this year i couldnt be bothered with arranging everything (it always seems to fall to some poor soul and its normaly me in my group).
So both years we tried to faithfully recreate LM - as we see it.
have a drive out in our cars ( we have open top kits so bit of a blat ), rocked up at mine where i'd done no prep - pulled the LM gear out of one of the garages - Marquee went up, freezer was wheeled out for uber cold beer, the bbq was similarly brought out as well as the mini hi-fi and beers were quaffed ahead of popping up the tentage for everyone. More beers and then a cheat as we popped into my boys room to see that start of the race....
a few morfe beers, a few silly games and then it was time for biking to Arnage Corner - ( well the local vilage that has 5 pubs ).
last year out of 12 - 4 fell off enroute, inc me with a busted AC joint, this year just the one fracture...

Bike related pub cawl and back from Arnage to Mulsanne and up the hill to home....by which time its dark enough for the projector - onto the side of the Merc Sprinter that we normally take to LM - Eurosport on that and music playing and then cutting betwee that and a load of music vids and other 'material' and a final check on teh race before wandering off to the tentage....
bbq'd brekkie, nor more beers for those that are off home that day and one by one the tents disappear and the marquee....and by 4pm thge garden is back to normal.

great fun although if we repeat as a replacement for LM or anytjhing else apperently the wives are banning the bikes on the grounds of health and safety.
