Thefts during early sat to apres race sunday

Hi all
Sad i know for such a post, but just wandering what peoples experiences of any thefts have been from early sat, during the race, then back to the car/camp after the race.
If the weather is nice and not blowing at 100mph, its our intention to leave pop-up tent up, chairs, table, burner gril etc out whilst wandering backwards and forwards over that 40 hours or so.
I know there have been issues re thefts after the race from those who were leaving on mondays. We will be wandering back to the car, eating there and wander out of the area mid-sunday evening.

We've been on Beaujour for the last 4 years and never had an issue with leaving BBQ, tables gezebo etc out whilst we are away. We do lock up the chairs though. The only ever thing that has been nicked off us was electricity, woke up one morning to find a random mobile phone plugged into our power supply. It turned out to belong to our Belgian neighbours.

Stayed with the lotus 7 guys around 10 years ago got rather drunk and we woke up wth two french guys in the tent i was dazed and half asleep. My mate gary is an ex boxer and proceeded in knocking the c**p out of both of them.He Then dragged them both outside the tent and carried on with loads of guys waking up eventually they both did a runner .
I shat myself and insisted we move the tent a distance away in case of reprisals.Not a good experience but to be fair a rare one! i say leave all valuables in the car and have bare essentials in the tent and maybe camp in numbers.Maybe some guys on here from the lotus club remember we were in a bright green 34 ford hotrod v8 powered also famously did huge burnout on the main road to the right of the main entrance.

Just think aloud here... I wonder if the type of car next to the tent alters the risk of thievery. Something like a Caterham has no secure boot or glovebox so valuables might be more likely to be inside the tent. Also a fancy motorcar might also signify a richer owner who may have a fancy wristwatch or fatter wallet, whereas those of us with shoddy estate cars aren't worth the effort of robbing.Truckosaurus said:

Sadly not from my experience. On Bleu Nord a good few years ago, one of our group was asleep in the back of a VW transporter instead of the tent as it was tropically hot. And as such, the slidey side window was cracked open a touch...Cue said person being rudely awoken in the middle of the night by an arm reaching in through the window and grabbing a bag (holdall) that was on the seat next to them.
Luckily there wasn't anything of particular value in the bag, but not too nice nonetheless.

I wouldn't worry about the stories as you'll then spend the whole weekend worrying about your security arrangments and that will detract from the whole point of you being there ending with you coming back not having enjoyed the whole experience. Just be sensible with your valuables and accept the fact that there are some a55holes even at the best motor racing event on the planet :-)
Everyone just needs to be sensible about this. If you are leaving your camping area unmanned, lock up any stuff you can't afford to replace if it gets pinched. Simple. This is especially true after the race when the gate security staff bugger off.
Don't be under any illusions that they will only take stuff that is obviously abandoned, either. My group have had confrontations in Houx Annexe more than once in the past where we were still sat in a group in our plot of the campsite after the race, and a few of the local wombles walked in and started picking up our stuff (tools, cooking gear etc) from right next to us, and getting quite stroppy when we told them to put it down and p155 off.
I don't think the campsite owners care because the local wombles save them a fortune on cleaning up the place. Almost everything that isn't food waste has scrap/recycling value so they sweep it all away, and it doesn't cost the campsite owners a single Euro. Just make sure you put any stuff you want to keep out of theiving distance and you'll be fine.

Couldn't agree more - if someone really wants to lift something of yours, they will. To echo points others have already made, hide your valuables inside your car somewhere and lock it up when you're not around. For bulkier items such as genny's and the like, if you possibly can, leave space in the boot after you've unpacked so you can chuck them in there when you're not around, though if that's not possible, lock them to something solid.
On the Sunday night when the people on the gates disappear and the
s descend, just make sure anything you want to keep is out of sight. They will be happy to rifle through anything you don't want to keep if you leave it all in a helpful little pile for them, though some find that the addition of half a gallon of diesel and a lit match makes things far more interesting... 
Been going to Le Mans for 13 years and never had anything stolen (asking for trouble or what). There are plain clothes security guys patrolling the sites which most people wouldn't notice. I only noticed them when I saw them nicking a young guy who was wearing a long, bulky coat in the middle of a very hot June day!
I've mainly stayed in Maison Blanche which may be extra secure because it's inside the circuit proper but I've also been on Bleu, Karting Nord and Houx Annex with no problems.

It's usually earlier than Monday morning. They usually start taking stuff as soon as the race is over and the security staff clear off, so any time from around 4pm on the Sunday. I've mainly stayed in Maison Blanche which may be extra secure because it's inside the circuit proper but I've also been on Bleu, Karting Nord and Houx Annex with no problems.

Sunday evening is when it all kicks off - a few years back a guy had a technical issue with his Escort Cossie, left it in the M-B (I think) car park and returned on Tuesday having sourced a recovery truck from the UK. A skip would have done the job as all that was left was the shell....

our first year saw our campervan broken into in arnage while we were having lunch, they nicked all our clothes, medicines, booze, fags and even the TVR spare keys (that was sat in front of the camper with the roof down!)
Apart from that we have had electrical equipment stolen from the tents during the week on houx but then we shouldn't have left them out. Just lock any valuables in car and enjoy the race. Unfortunately the pikies do start wandering around quite early so dont leave anything out that you want to take home.

Went to Beausejour last year and will be this year aswell if your camping near us will keep an eye on your stuff for you when we are around. Never really had any issues just people coming around taking wood for fires and left any tents alone till monday evening. Come over and say hi anyway if you spot us. Blue E39 5 series and mates red rover will be parked there.
