Norfolk Lines/DFDS Seaways on the Dover-Dunkirk route were cheap the other day when I checked.

Found a route to Dunkerque for £45 return! That's only about half an hour extra on the boot and the same on the road, isn't it?

Maybe an extra hour boating compared to Calais, but that allows you to stuff your fat face have a polite meal during the crossing.
