Tow ropes are hard to find in France if you dont know where to look, worth taking one with you, if you do break down on the motorways the local french companies charge you a fortune to tow you off! Get a friend to tow you off the motorway then call the recovery services wink

That is a very generous offer though
I would have jumped at that a few years ago thumbup

Ok quick update russled round the garage now got strong tow rope thingy, footpumps, tyre pressure gauge, clear silicon for temporary gaskets, zipper clips, scotch tape, insulation tape a box of good spare nuts and bolts and jubilee clips and couple of gallons of petrol and gonna take my mini mig welder as we have generator on board not sure if it will work but sure mains can be found. Some spare oil and loads of spanners sockets surprising doesnt take up much room. Have got rear door ladder so can carry stuff on rear of my van can load on roof if needed on other side no probs only restriction is on ferry crossings.

Cutting to the chase guys broke down myself years ago and got towed 120 miles down to lemans and begged borrowed and stole and managed to source a head gasket and repaired the car so pay back time for me.Hope you dont need my help but hey you have my number

As twitter increases in popularity it would be good to have a #lemansph hash tag for just such emergencies. I have only just started using it and there might be a better way to do this.

Top man popinoz, tremendous gesture.

Good idea re-twitter too, 80K Brits heading off into France, would be nice to have a network to call on, as a last resort, if things really went bottoms up.

A wonderful gesture, which very aptly typifies the general spirit of Le Mans. I'm sure there will be many people who have already saved your number in their phone, but I'm going down in a TVR you see, so clearly have no need for it!!!!

I think they call it the Kiss of Death, don't they....?

Have a cracking weekend chaps!

Top man.

I remember the first year I went to Le Mans in 2008 I drove down in what was probably the most knackered Transit van in Europe at the time. After breaking down or stopping for repairs EIGHT TIMES (at least) the joke was wearing a little thin but I'll always remember the kindness those who stopped to help.

I wouldn't recommend this as a good way to meet people though!
