Newbie - am i missing something?

Apart from weeklong party/booze....

Thinking of picking my lad (13) up from school and getting overnight ferry (P'mouth - Caen £143 ret or Dover/Dunk £27) and getting there for race start, park up for £12? and buy GA x 1 (<16 free) and not bother with camping/sleeping ?
I know half the fun is the camping/booze but am I missing something here?

Ive read that the french police disaprove of people sleeping in their cars?
unless in a designated camping area anyway..

somebody may wish to share their experience though ?

I am sure it will be fine. As long as you are not drunk with the keys in the ignition, it should be okay.

I know a few people who have slept in cars.

I think the police will have enough to do :-)

My brother and his mate have been doing this since about 1982 barring a few gaps, never heard of them having any problems. I think they normally park in the Parking Bleu.

I've been sleeping on the Saturday night in my car since 1996, parked up in Parking Blanc, along with loads of others, so no problems.

Just be careful about driving whilst tired please. I don't think it makes a lot of difference in time as to which ferry you take, but obviously you will be driving a lot more via Dover.

Sounds like a great plan to me! Wish my Dad had done this.

- Blanc is £45 but allocated (does this work if you turn up Saturday afternoon?).

Luckily its inset day on Monday so will be doing F1 on the way home - (cheapo room NOT the GP);

Blanc will be full for race day, its advance booking and i doubt you could get a pass when you get there. I have been 6 times now and always park in blanc and sleep in the car saturday night and never had a problem. And now the big wheel is by the ford chicanes you can get some high level pics of your car in the carpark

One other thing, i have driven down on the saturday morning, done the race slept in the car and driven home right after the finish. Was very tired but i,ve done it and proved to myself that it is possible

I'ce parked in Parking Blanc every year I've been since 1996.

I've done fast trip down and selpt in the car in Parking Blanc maybe three times, and tiring is the right word, but certainly worthwhile.

Parking Blanc is advance ticket only, available via the ACO or various ticket agencies. You don't arrive and park anywhere, your ticket has an assigned space number and there's marshalls around to ensure you park where you should. Unfortunatley, some people do try and pitch a tent too and this is ok but many people do nick other car spaces to pitch their tent or even erect their tent in the access tracks: not a wise thing to do!

It is really close to the circuit entry gate at the start of the pits straight but it's not possible to actually see the circuit or any racing direct from Parking Blanc.

I always get a seat in La Sarthe tribune which is also very close to Parking Blanc.

Any tent pitched in my expensive parking space in Blanc won't stay pitched for long!

Amazing how many people cannot fathom the numbering system and park in the wrong slot.
