I last went to the Le mans three years ago. I was watching the cars drive by and do burn outs along the Mulsanne straight (next to the bar about half way down on the left IIRC). There was a great atmosphere with some great cars. Does this still happen? Will this be happening this year? Thanks in advance.

ofcourse!!

however there are alot of police presence and along the main straight you cant get away with burnouts etc without being pulled over for a hefty fine.

so most people just drive up and down lol

I would say it does not happen, last year there was such a massive police presence. It is not the burnouts that made it special but all the reallly great cars that drove past I could stand there for hours.
But last couple of years not exotica becuse of the (I have no idea how to spell this word) goading and calling fro wheelspins. Everyone with a decent car keeps away. real shame.

And can you blame them. Since it became a chav-fest, why on earth would you want to run the risk of a super soaker full of water/beer/p*** in your pride and joy?

Yep its a real shame my 'Forty is going no where near the Mulsanne on Friday. (mainly becuase it will be sitting on the side of the autoroute with steam pouring from its many orifice's !!)
It used to be really good natured afternoon, but everyone now gets a little bit too excited!!!

Went down there after leaving the PH meet last year and no crowd and no cars, the year before at the same time plenty of cars and people so am guessing probably not.

Cheers

Mulsanne to Indianapolis then onto Arnage has been closed off for years now, probably due to this incident !! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmEvFMa_LF8

They 'the authorities', would love to close off the Mulsanne straight, but as it's a busy road to and from Le Mans, so more or less impossible. Expect plenty of french plod again near to the pub/chinese restro, this year for sure.

I'm surprised they don't close it TBH. There's a perfectly good alternative route that runs parallel from Tetre Rouge to Mulsanne.

Go there early afternoon or before lunch, basically before the beer really kicks in and it's not too bad.

And give Houx roundabout a seriously wide berth anytime after lunch, it gets completely stupid down there, or at least it used it.

Last year there were a few police vans parked up - not a single sports car in sight.
