Drivers' parade + channel crossing around midday tomorrow...

Haven't booked the crossing as yet but looks as though it will be at sometime around midday tomorrow. I'm taking the tunnel. Race tickets, parking, etc. all in place for this year's trip.

Given that I'd like to take the N138/D438 rather than the Autoroute, that the Gendarmes are out in force and that I'd like to make a reasonable stop for lunch, am I being unrealistic about making it to the drivers' parade if the crossing is going to be around midday?

Your problem is going to be the one hour time difference and the massive trafic jam in Le Mans caused by the road closures from around 3:00 pm so they can set up the parade route. Then there's parking nearby....

I know all about this from bitter experience from a few years ago. We arrived mid Friday afternoon and had a hotel in the town centre. Just took us ages to figure out a route to get there and it took us maybe 2 hours after entering Le Mans.

I didn't make it to the drivers' parade last year but in '09 we were able to park fairly close to LM centre with a 5-minute walk to the nearest beer stall/decent vantage point. Perhaps we were just very fortunate that time, I won't expect to be able to do the same thing tomorrow evening.
