The McNish crash that you've no doubt seen is just like 1955 all over again. Two cars in two very different leagues on one track, inevitably ending in disaster. Unfortunately this is what makes Le Mans so exciting isn't it? Various races all in one place at one time. The drivers know the risks, so do the teams and the fans. No one wants to see anyone get killed or injured, and thankfully both involved looked to be o.k. But dull it aint and this, for me anyway, is what real racing is all about... high risk and adrenalin fuelled. Bring it on!
I was actually googling about this earlier. Frankly it was a bit of a heart in mouth moment when McNish crashed and with those few seconds before McNish clambered out of the car. If (God forbid) there was a fatal accident, would the race continue?

Yep, I have to say, when he climbed out and walked off, I was gobsmacked. But something that really made me laugh through the unfortunate event was that photographer in blue. I'm still not sure even now if he has any idea what just happened behind him! Totally oblivious to the Grim Reaper screaming past him dressed as a wheel.

No, I agree. But it was a very similar event where the faster car simply couldn't pull up quick enough when a slower car was in its path, albeit launching a car into the crowd like that is obviously a lot more difficult now. As I said before, more than one race on the same track at the same time.The whole place went very quiet when it happened. I had horrible feeling when it went on the big screens.
The marshals and photographers were very very lucky. Could easily have been 3-4 deaths it the car had gone over.
It could not have got to the spectators though, there is the proper catch fence and raised another few feet.
Just shows the safety these days is very good.

The 2nd audi crash was just as nasty. Apparently there is just the cockpit/tub left, nothing else attached to it!!!

Thanks for the info - I'm still watching on Eurosport and there haven't been any pictures of the damaged Audi on the Mulsanne. The marshals and photographers were very very lucky. Could easily have been 3-4 deaths it the car had gone over.
