Car #60 Aston Martin DBRS9 - Is the driver ok?

Anyone know anything about the number 60 DB9 Gulf coloured car that was involved in a big night smash?

Also any details about what and how the smash happened? I went to sleep on Sat night and when I got up on Sunday and went back to the circuit there was noting on Radio Le Mans at all.

The driver was Mike Wainwright

He broke a rib or two and had a punctured lung

Amazing that the Audi drivers were in better health, looked quite a nasty side on impact but surprised with the severity of the injuries. Sad as that Aston sounded great and always looked like they were really trying round the Porsche Curves.

It did seem to only get tiny coverage and no idea where or how it happened.

Heard radio Le man mention it, but just caught it and thought they were talking about something from a previous race.

All the mentions of the Audi crashes with little to no injury and this fella was hurt!

The difference in the injuries of both Audi drivers is mainly due to their cars being designed as racing cars and the Aston being primarily designed as a road car.

Racing car safety features are one of the main ways road cars improve.

Looks like it was a very hard side-on impact with no chance to spread the deceleration out over a longer distance.

I'm assuming this happened somewhere around Porsche Curves. I got up at 4am to go and watch dawn break over the grandstands and as I was walking back to my tent (Maison Blanche) it was being driven through our campsite on a transporter at about 5.30am. It looked in a very bad way...

One of the Ferrari 430's wrecked just to the left of me at about 06.30a.m. just after one of the 458's came through the Porsche Curves backwards. Pictures are on the Le Mans picture thread on my Facebook page.
