Hi - after absolutely freezing at 24 this year, I want to sort something better our for 24 and Classic next year, but still want to be track-side

Came across the shipping container village which TD set up, which seems just the thing.

Does anyone have any feedback, or on TD in general? My only concern is that they may be a little claustrophobic, what with having no windows - unless the two things either side of the door are just that, but still...

Thanks smile

I can't speak for anyone else, but in 7/8 years of going to Le Mans, that was the very first time I've been cold at night. Personally I wouldn't be too worried, you should be fine next year...

Was thinking it would be also be good to have somewhere to go back to intermittently to have a rest/snooze, with the intention of watching the racing through the night. With a two seater car with little boot space, unfortunately we can't fit chairs etc in. And having 40 winks in a sweaty/freezing tent doesn't cut it! smile

In the past, I've used a couple of the budget/chain hotels ( which outfits such as MRI use) on the road into Le Mans from St Saturnin.
It's an easy car trip to the circuit from there

RLM?

Thanks for other suggestions, but this was my fourth year at LM, and I've finally worked out exactly what it is I want - which is a non-tent at the circuit. So, responses to the question in hand would be much appreciated smile

I went to have a look also thinking about next year. Don't really want to camp (lugging all the gear is a pain, not so much the camping side of it).

I thought they were 750 per cabin, so sharing the cost wasn't too bad, although still a lot for what it is.

Was shocked to find that they were 750 per person!

Food costs are extra.

They were fully booked so someone's seen the cost as alright. I just couldn't justify the cost in my head just to be at the circuit.

I stay in a hotel, 10-15 mins from track. Bout 250 per person.

The boxes themselves are really basic, there is windows. If you're not bothered about the costs they are secure and the site.

Poor value for money. I'm not even considering it for next year.

Good God - that's obscene!

A blatant waste of money, but I was so miserable and cold at LM this year (and spent a fortune all-in-all) that I couldn't enjoy it as much as I wanted, so it was a waste. The trouble is that there just isn't anywhere to get warm (other than your sleeping bag!). So I wonder if spending a bit more, to be warm and comfortable, is worth it. I'm not meaning overnight so much (because I did purchase the 6 Euro Carrefour sleeping bag as a second one!); but more the rest of the time

Also, as mentioned, the main reason I'm liking this set up is there's nowhere to warm up/have a snooze when you get a bit sleepy, but don't want to go to 'bed'. Next year, I'd really like to watch more of the night-time action - so it'd be good to grab a bit of shut-eye (on a bed)/get warm, and then head back to the circuit. And repeat. Being a drive away, means you'd be driving back and forth, which would be really tedious

Hope next year we have the weather from last year. That was wonderful

SC,

In a way you've summed up why I travel Friday/Monday, stay at a hotel some distance from the circuit on Friday and Sunday, and sleep in the car at the circuit on Saturday. It's a matter of avoiding camping, avoiding traffic at the circuit, and the cost of hotels at Le Mans. I do find sleeping for one night in the car OK, although I'd rather the weather is chilly as opposed to really hot and humid!

RLM=Radio Le Mans: they interviewed Travel Destinations who provided the Flexhotel facility. Seems most are taken by corporates and also some of the team support persons.

How many times would you go for a kip? In previous years we've come from the hotel on sat morning and not returned until after the race. Just got bit of kip on the bank at mulsanne or in the grandstand.

This year we left the circuit at 03:00 and got some sleep at the hotel. Returned mid morning.

You can't do Le man without tiredness(unless you only turn up for the start and finish).

Driving in and out really is no hassle.

Other thing could be buying into hospitality package. But I think Aston and Audi were around 1500pp, but that's not accommodation. Audi did have the Audi racing hotel, just outside the circuit which I think they still do. Not far off the cost of the flexhotel things.

There is no heating in the flexhotel boxes either, but they're probably warmer than tent.

Next year is 10th in a row so looking to treat myself, but there is no way the boxes are now even a consideration on principal the package is big waste of money.

Good points, thank you

Being of the bazongas variety, I'm always cold biggrin Wish a bank/grandstand would do the trick frown And I think a week off before LM, to just sleep in preparation, is in order next year!

People who book hotels - I don't know how you do it. Year after year? I bet most of the rooms are block booked by tour operators mad

True, but if you do find one rebook year on year, we keep the same hotel and same room

The hotels put up their prices for the race

I don't know about other hotels but where we stay the day room cost is 4.5 times their standard charge on the Friday and Saturday
and three times for the Wednesday and the Thursday

So for the Sunday to the Sunday stay that's 1,500 Euros just for the room then there is food and wine costs

90 euro a night (smaller rooms 75), clean and comfortable, pretty little village, 10-15 mins into car park on the inside of the circuit, route in and out has no queues at virtually any time!

4th year at the hotel.

A lot of hotels booking systems especially like booking.com don't work for things a year away. Even try in July and advance booking are easier.

Some hotels will be pre booked by the repeat visitors. There are enough options in the area that you don't need to pay through the roof. The only thing our hotel does is also charge for breakfast, regardless of whether you have it or not over LM weekend.

Fair point but have a look at the novotel package for LE mans next year and there must be a massive amount of profit tied up in that aswell, just crazy!

The reality is that accommodation is always loopily priced for LM week - What you get with the specialist travel providers is availability and an assurance of quality.

We can go on about prices but the reality is that if you book it direct it a. won't be available, and b. if it is then its likely to be even more expensive.

A colleague of mine booked direct and went Saturday to Monday in a less than ordinary 2 star motel which turned out to be pokey and not particularly well serviced - It cost over 2 grand!
