According to Autosport, Porsche Jaguar and Toyota may all be contending the 2014 Le Man 24 Hours in LMP1 or whatever it will be called then. Sounds like there is a good chance of this happening. Weather or not Audi will still run if their sister marque Porsche will enter is anyone's guess. For the past few years Ferrari have shown an interest albieit at a distance so if they join in what a show that would be. No diesel Ferrari though !

The Audi board has given permission for several years of participation despite Porsche coming in. They are proving different technologies.

Porsche needs to convince the public that hybrid technology can be 'cool' and offer (improved) performance with significantly reduced emissions and also to prove that being "green" is not only for the lunatic fringe. It is a matter of survival for a company like Porsche that they change the mind set and not just bury the head in the sand on green issues.

Audi on the other hand has by and large proved that diesel can offer performance and is not just for boring old family cars chugging along. Now they will push for lighter cars as the cars generally have become a lot heavier over the last twenty years with all the gadgets and safety zones etc. This has had a negative impact on fuel consumption and performance as awell as using up more resources in the construction. Lighter does not necessary mean less safety as McNish and Rocky can testify.

That's what Le Mans needs. As much as I like the GT's it's the LMP1's that do it
