France and street legal track tyres/black number plates...

Hi, France have some quirky road laws in relation to us and so I don't get caught out, are street legal track tyres, e.g. R888's /ZZR's OK on their roads and are black number plates passable?

If the car is legal in its country of origin then you'll have no worries about being pulled by plod in France. Things like *missing* number plates ("sorry occifer, it fell off...") will attract attention, but then that wouldn't be legal in the UK either...

Simple things like not having adjusted your headlights or put tape / deflectors on them are possible areas where you might get pulled (don't dazzle police officers at night...) but other than that it's just common sense.

Refer to the usual motoring sites to check what the current local requirements are around paperwork, spare bulbs, warning triangles, high-viz vests, etc., and you'll be fine.

This is NOT a legal requirement when driving on the continent - just a nice little earner for Halfords. Kits do not even exist to bring French cars to the UK!

Not dazzling other road users is commonsense, so if you have headlight height adjusters for when the car is loaded, drop them a notch, or two.

That's really useful as we go to France often in the summer. Don't think I have headlamp adjusters in the MKII (RS) ;-) but as you say sounds like a money spinner and just tape will do... :-)

Sounds like good news on the tyres as I'm hoping for good weather and these sort of tyres are top notch when it's warm.
