The French are supposed to be bringing in new laws soon, they are;
Every car should carry a Breathalyser.
Sat Navs that show speed camera's will be banned.
Cannot understand how they will check every Sat Nav for speed camera alerts, what are they going to do about in-built car systems?

50kph over and it's a matter of handing over your licence and car, the latter of which is likely to be crushed. Also you will be required to turn up in Court some time later. Under this speed and the fine can be crippling. Fines are on the spot...you may be taken to the nearest ATM. No cash, then licence is retained and you're left wherever you are unless someone else can drive the car.
Speeding in France is now a no-no. There are loads of hidden speed traps over the Le Mans period all over the route from Calais. Brits etc are an easy target.

All for cutting out drink driving, but this just seems crazy. If you are inclined to drink drive, are you really going to bother breathalysing yourself.
There is no way you can drive over the limit, and not know it. People who just 'get caught out', 'didn't realise', is all bulls

Then there is the issue of the actual breathalysers. At what level device do you make mandatory. I wouldn't trust cheap ones you see in garages, back of car mags. Proper devices require regular recalibration to remain reliable and are £300-500 new.
The autolock system (actually built into car, won't start until breath provided), they talk about is something volvo has been pushing for. Interesting survey was done by Volvo. I know some countries are introducing or trying, measures like the autolock which will be fitted to the vehicle if you are caught drink driving. Rather than bans, you get get strict measures. Or if you don't comply then you get banned.
The technology was largely conceived for public service vehicles, buses, coaches etc and also the haulage industry and large company fleet vehicles.
Who would want their car altered to accommodate such a system, especially high end cars. I think cost would rule this idea being retrospective. It would have to be fitted as new, but France only? The hand held breathalyser in vehicles has so many pitfalls, I just don't what it would really do.
You may have one in the car, but will there be a law about having to use it?
Or more concern is the new speed traps with no warning. You can't exactly miss the current signs ahead of the speed cameras.
I think the days of the big blast around France has gone. That's why I take the scenic routes now to Le man. No massive speed, but the roads are at least twisty and interesting to drive and there are nice little villages to see along the way.
