2012 TV coverage
Discussion
Alas, it seems I won't be making it this year. Pity. Several of my usual party have newborns and have been handcuffed to the prams by their other halves. The rest are flaky buggers and couldn't organise the proverbial p*** up in a brewery so it seems I'll be watching from home this year.
Does anyone know yet if Eurosport will be doing HD coverage again?

According to this

they have renewed their contract for 3 years in 2011, so my guess is that you'll be covered on the TV-side of things. Bugger about not be able to come over, though!

Great - you can sit at home and watch Le Mans be bounced around the channels to make way for repeats of cycle racing!
Hooray. Trust me, I'd rather be there, but my baby-making mates have scuppered my plans this year!
lots of

Eurosport for the TV pictures, Radio Le Mans streaming online for the commentary, Le Mans 24h Website for the live timing, and lots of Heineken from the fridge.
Eat only "sandwich american" hotdogs & microchips and try to stay awake in front of the telly, for the whole 24 hours.
If you can't make it one year, it's the next best thing to being there.

I have done this once before, and I think I watched more of the race that year and had a better idea generally of everything that has happend, than I have on any of the years I've been there in person.
In a cruel twist of fate, that year I also went on what my other half considers our first date, earlier that day before having mates round for the race in the afternoon - so now she considers Le Mans saturday to be our anniversary... but it didn't stop me from going last year

Just to bump this topic, does anyone know if Eurosport coverage is available online? Just moved house and don't have satellite or cable at my new address (and don't intend to get them if I can help it, as I have Freesat, Netflix and speedy fibre-optic broadband) so just wondering if there will be streaming coverage of the race?
Pay 4,90 euro per month: http://www.eurosportplayer.com/
Free: http://www.sportlemon.tv/
I watched a lot of crucible snooker via the sportlemon when the bbc-coverage went down and eurosport was showing synchronized swimming and with a cable from laptop to tv it was ok. Not great, but ok.

Audi always provide a live stream (with separate channels, one even showing on board with telemetry. Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OREUhlcK28 ) and no doubt it will probably be streamed via the FIA WEC website.
The last time I didn't go I signed up for Eurosport online for one month...it was 24 hour coverage except for when the connection failed as it was not fully robust. The commentary was in French but then I listened in via the really excellent RLM and their team. Also got on to the ACPO website for detailed stats when needed.
I camped out in the lounge, had a crate of beers, good food (of course) and all in all a good time!
