breathalyser kit

Artical in the Daily Mail on-line today that says breathalyser kit will be required from July but people will be given a warning until Nov and the the fines come in.

Obviously these kits will be sold at the ferry terminal for an inflated price, but has anyone got any details of the approved kits, so we can buy them in advance for a reasonable rate?

My cousin living in Monaco said that many BP petrol stations in Cote d'Azur were handing them out free at the counter as you would candy...

I heard on the radio that the fine for not having one was 11e. If thats the fine they must be cheap as chips. Apparently it is also law that all bars and clubs have to have this behind the bar so you can check your level after a few swift ones.

Not going to bother getting one; based on it being a. stupid law & b. Likelihood of being checked is minimal.

Same with bulb kits. Can't access lights, so it would have to go to a garage anyway.

Hmmm. Lots of British cars from Calais to Le Mans and back on a well known route, many drivers won't know about the new law. Cue the "How many €11 fines can we collect today" competetions....

As the date for the implementation of this new rule has been pushed back to July I shan't be bothering.

Another law I will not be taking seriously, The only one I will take note is the high vis vests which I think is a good idea.

What happens if you get pulled for having no breathalyser, "sorry officer I used it before I started my journey" """Hic,,,cup"" and it said I was ok to drive,, ""hic,,cup""..

Most useless French rule to date, whatever will they think of next.

I've read today the Automobile Club-de-France has confirmed that the law has not changed with regards to carrying a breathalyser in your car and it is only a proposal to make it compulsory later this year and as yet no decision has been made as to whether visiting motorists will be required the carry one.

It was stated in an article in the March addition of the Caravan Club magazine confirming that the legal department of the ACF confirms no change in the law and as yet regarding compulsory breathalysers and it is presently only a proposal.
It goes on to say breathalysers can be purchased in French pharmacies for about a euro,take it they are not very high tech at that price.This is one motor that the Gendarme's wont find one in.

All I can say there are so many excellent and informative web site saying the law on breathalysers come into force on the 1st July (the same web site that have also given details about the change in law about Sat Navs with speed camera alerts and the taking down of speed camera warning signs both of which are in force or being done).

I also have another thread on another forum on this subject (not a motoring forum) and have asked anyone to post just one web site link that states this will not become law on 1st July.......no one has posted a link.

I for one will be turning my speed camera alerts off as well as carrying 2 breath kits from the 1st July.
I do not speak enough French to stand and argue with the French Old Bill not for the cost of £4.99.

In the end its up to you guys you decide carry one (or 2) or not.

I can see a new game on camp-sites who can get the highest breath level lol.

This site gives the reason for the delay as being a delay getting enough units. Also says that fines will not be issued until November.
