Tent recommendations

In previous years our party of 3 has managed in a large 'family' size tent one of the guys owns. We are six this year, so need to something additional. Are those pop up Quechua ones any good?

Pop up as in small as ste and difficult to get in or out when pissed unlike big tents that you can fall in or out of easily?

Cant you just get a bigger tent?

I bought one of these for LM last year and it worked well for 3 guys (I slept in my Terra Nova Laser next to the Quechua. Whilst the porch isn't really that big it was a good place to put the fridge and the 25ltr water container, beer crates and bags.

I found it pretty easy to put away and quicker than a normal tent, but not by much to be fair. It's a good solid tent and coped well with sweaty blokes and some rain. When I was getting ready to put the pop tent away a hoard of s showed up expecting me not to be able to put it away and that they'd get a nice new free tent, they all drove off looking very sad when I neatly folded it into its bag

There are big cheap tents but you also have to think about the size of your pitch and how far out your guy ropes have to go.

We got a 6 man tent from Go Outdoors about 4 years ago - reduced from around £200 to £50 (and it's still going strong) 2 bedrooms plus a big room in the middle - big enough to stand up in with table, charis etc - invaluable if it's tipping down outside (more practical than pop ups)

To say pop tents aren't that practical would be a bit harsh, mine does have a porch that you could get 4 guys round a small table in (if one of them sat in the bedroom). It has an internal sleeping chamber that's well made and I've slept in it a couple of times after LM and it's a very good tent, even in the pouring rain. Pop tents aren't for backpacking that's for sure but for quick car camping they are great. I used to use a 3 and a 2 man pop tent many moons ago to camp on tarmac in the paddock areas of racetracks all over Europe, there aren't many tents that you can pitch on tarmac withough using nails as pegs!

Exactly - that's our main tent, 3 bedrooms, big enough to sit/stand in the 'living room' if its nailing it down. Just need one or two smaller sleeping only ones.

Yeah that's a good little tent for LM, I bought the 2 man version for my nephew and as you say, 2 minutes tops and it's erect (am I the first to use the word erect in the tent thread, score!).

Its just the buggers down afterwards, you do have to practice for a bit before you get the hang of it but if you can pick one up on the cheap and your not too bothered about bringing it back, its not a problem!

you need a Tunnel Tent, mine has two large sleeping compartments at the rear and the front of the tent (when not used as a garage has a zip in window and doors so that you can sit a table and chairs inside in the event of bad weather.
But I stick on a 3mtr x 3mtr Gazebo and makes the perfect garage

Don't know where you live but, Google decathlon, search their site for tents, lots of choice on pop UPS and quick pitch tents. All sizes sleeping upto 6 in two beds and a centre. I have a two man and they are excellent for what is only going to be a bed if I get there. What ever you buy make sure you know how to use it before you go.

Bit larger, but I bought a Sunncamp Shadow 800 with the enclosed porch last year. Granted there were only three of us sleeping in it, but when it pee'd it down, we got about 8 people in the main living area on camping chairs and still had room for the kids to run around!
