Camping at Arnage - any good

I had said that I wouldn't go this year, but the 80th anniversary and the footy leads me to think that a week away from the usual weekly stress might do me good.

I have been offered a camping ticket at Arnage for good money, I went out there last year and quite enjoyed it. I was planning on taking the pushbike to get to the circuit. Would anyone recommend this location, I was planning on arriving on Wed to secure a place and quite fancy a quiet contemplative Le Mans this year so not too worried about revelry, and I will also be on my own.

We have stayed in Arnage a few times, it's a quieter than the main sites with great viewing opportunities. It’s not near the main stadium but thats what I like about it.

I quite fancied this site, but have managed to get my car onto my neighbours pitch and he is even offering accommodation in his tent in return for carrying his stuff down.

We cycle out to Arnage corner every year on the Saturday to watch the sun go down and always talk about camping there ... what are the facilities like? Toilets, showers, water stand pipes, electrics etc?

We stayed there a couple of years ago as others have said it is not a bad site and relatively quiet compared to others. The views are good watching the cars come from Mulsanne and then braking for Indianapolis or watching them sweep through Indianapolis to Arnage corner and there is a screen there to watch the action on other parts of the circuit.

The toilets were modern portakabin types and were kept clean the showers were the individual plastic shelters. The only pain is that these are trackside and there is a fence between the campsite and facilities for which you need to show your ticket to get to which we often forgot an then had to go back for, not a situation you want to be in after eating the famous red sausages.

The other issue is that the nearest shops are at Mulsanne which you need to drive to and you then have to navigate the one way system to return to the campsite.

Remember to have a big hammer to get the tent pegs in the ground feels like there is hardcore under the top layer of sand and is difficult to get the pegs in.

If you want to get to the main circuit area there is a free bus service that starts once the race has started.
