Beer bottles in Houx

Sorry if there is already a thread for this, but it is close to my heart!

IS there a ban on beer bottles this year in Houx? We went to trouble of cans last year and it was such a pain in the arse....was the ban real last year???

I've heard that last year the ban was implemented because of the rowdy crowd at the MotoGP making a total mess of it. Apparently the (city) council was a little surprised of the consequences/outcome of the ban, so this year there will be no ban. As I dearly hope so too, because I intend on bringing some of Belgian's finest brews over!

If I remember correctly, (please correct me if not) Brian from 1st tickets has contacted the ACO and they confirmed there will be no ban. (hope I remember this correctly)

There is definately no bottle ban for this year, was a mistake last year and wont happen again!

IIRC last year's bottle ban was a knee jerk reaction to a bottle fight between the Pedrosa and Simoncelli fans after Marco's , uh, robust pass on Dani that left him the gravel with a smashed collarbone. We were in Houx Annexe and Houx last year and it wasn't being enforced by the time we arrived at 4 on Thursday.

I've just received my tickets from Just Tickets and on the front page of their info booklet it states;

"The public is informed that for its security, the site may be equipped with a video surveillance system, placed under the control of the correct authority, which may be used in any legal procedures. Searching can be made at the entrance, would you be so kind to conform to it. The public is reminded that the law of 6/12/93 states that any person caught entering or attempting to enter the site in possession of an object likely to be construed as a weapon or as likely to cause injury, including glass bottles, is liable to 3 years imprisonment and a fine of 15,245 Euros"

Obviously the law has stood for some time and beer bottles have never been a problem but if this statement is accurate then it seems their interpretation of the law has been adjusted to include bottles.

That says likely or construed. Unless you are lobbing them or threatening to punch someone in the face with said item or have intent to do so I suspect you'll be fine.

At the end of the day i could also stab someone with a tent peg or brain them with a car brace, not saying you can't take them in at all, its the intent issue.

Well quite, Anything has the potential to be a weapon but its up to the discretion of the person enforcing the rules. If they have already decided to ban glass bottles, they will argue that they are potential weapons or whatever to reinforce their stance. It's like the old 'Elf and safety' nonsense we're used to. Rarely has it got anything to do with the reasons cited, its just that it makes the rule makers decisions harder to argue.

Been to asda and bought a pallet load (metaphorically speaking) of beer in cans.

Its that easy, so why even bother?

Because beer in cans is about 1,5 - 2,0 times as expensive as beer in glass bottles?

Last year on the Tuesday the Arnage Super-U only had one pack of 6x 330ml cans of the red'n'white Kronnenburg left.

If the powers that be wanted a reduction in glass bottles they just have to amend the "no alcohol sold on 24h bike weekend" laws
to "no glass bottles on 24h auto week" and have the local shops selling cans (or plastic!) and most people wouldn't care enough
to make the effort to buy out of town.

Don't know about prices in the UK, but in Belgium beer in cans is more expensive than beer in renewable bottles. (maybe the renewable part makes it cheaper?)

Unfortunately it's way cheaper to buy cans here (UK), can't bring myself to buy them though, having lived in Brussels for 9 months a few years ago

We'll be buying bottled beer in France, camping in Houx, like last year. We didn't encounter any problems, but they were checking and if you had anything obviously on show they were attempting to confiscate. They started to see sense by Thursday.

Let's hope the bikers behave at the Moto GP this weekend as that's what triggered the beer blunder for us at the 24 hrs last year.

The security blokes on Houx last year wouldn't let us in when we came back from carrefour with bottles. As we didn't understand what they were saying, the women on the controle translated for us, but they basically told us to leave, hide the beer better, then come back, so we hid it in the spare wheel well! was a pain in the arse but we will see what happens this year!

Just seen these on twitter from LeMansrace.com

"Le Mans official update: Alcohol will be allowed in all campsites. However glass bottles will not be allowed in General Enclosure area #LM24"

"Further to that last tweet we recommend that all customers do not take any glass bottles to Le Mans circuit. #LM24 #Lemans"

So it looks like it's better to go with (or buy there if they have any!) cans again this year.....I wonder if anyone has told the hyper markets in Le Mans??

FTA - As Houx is within the general enclosure area (as you need a GE ticket to get in) I'm sure they will be checking on the gates again this year.
