Taking Gas to Le mans..(newbie)

Hi

This is my first year going to le mans, we are going to take a gas bbq for cooking on also can double up as a hob for boiling water etc etc,

How much gas to take? (thursday till monday)

And do we take the gas with us?, or buy when we get to le mans?

(Going on euro tunnel, Can you even take gas on the train?)

Please help

Pretty sure that you are NOT allowed to take gas bottles on the tunnel !

Your average bbq gas bottles are 7kg and 15kg, think how long they last!

That link says

I'd ring them and ask if the bottle will be in a car for use in a tent.

I've not taken gas before (other than a 500ml camping gas for brewing coffee), this year will by my first year as I am taking a 3 way cool box. I asked about and someone suggested they took 15kg which was plenty. They also highlighted that taking your own supply is better as you then won't have to pay the deposit on the bottle when you're over there as you can't exchange your own english supplied empty bottle for a French full one, so I was told.

From the couple of times I've been, I'm so excited to get there that all I wan't to do is set up camp and start enjoying le mans itself rather than faffing about spending too much time getting supplies, so the more preparred you are in advance the better in my opinion.

by the way, first Le Mans? They say you never forget your first love, first car, first taste of beer.... you'll never forget your first Le Mans- you will be hooked!

A 7kg bottle was only half used by us in 2007 in our caravan for - fridge, cooking on full sized cooker and heating (yes it did get cold, it pissed down for most of the week)

So 47kg will be total overkill! Plus I doubt you'll get it on the tunnel train. A 7kg bottle will last ages. Also, French gas has different fittings to UK, so you could buy it over there, but it won't fit and you will need to pay the deposit on the bottle which you won't get back unless you return it.

Best buy a 7kg Calor jobbie over here and bring it back with you.

Thats useful to know, so for a 3 way cool box (and nothing else such as cooking etc.) a 3.9kg propane bottle will more than enough?

Experience suggests I can produce enough gas to run a fridge if you feed me BBQ'ed horse meat from the Carrefore
