Damaged car and theft

Thursday night one of our group had their wallet and mobile phone stolen from their tent. Other people camping nearby also had money and mobiles stolen so next year be warned ! We all tend to let our guard down at Le Mans as there are so many decent people there.
Sometime during Friday night/Saturday early hours, some brainless moron threw eggs at some cars parked in our group including TVR's Ferarris and a Porsche. The Caymen now has to go to the body shop to have the paint repaired (yes, egg shells chip paint)

t who did this can't read or write so won't be reading this, but in case you can, if you do anything like this next year and you are caught by us I promise you, we will kick the st out of you.

But ask yourself this, would you entrust your wallet and phone to complete strangers? That is effectively what you do if you leave them in an insecure tent.

Because of many complaints the police in mufti bagged a gang of three pickpockets and one had over 1,000 euros in his pocket. Here's another sorry tale:-

Even though we were staying on a secure area, all bags were locking cars during the day and phones/wallets/etc were kept on person at all times.
I specifically wasn't going to risk my passport as I have taken 3 months of pissing about to get my russian visa, I lose that and the OH kills me.

We still had a great time even with the damage and theft but will re-think certain things for next year.

These people who had their stuff stolen have been going to Le Mans for nine years, the wallet was in his trousers in the front area of a zipped tent, you do not expect someone to come into your tent whilst your in it.
Apparently they were looking for flashing lights of charging phones, clearly visible through the canvas of a tent at night, the security thought it was unusual way of stealing as they normally cut through the tent as the zip makes too much noise.

I would have been less surprised if it was one of the 'outside' sites. We were in Houx and saw no trouble at all. That said, the security on the gate from the track was virtually non existent this year.
I reckon as another poster has pointed out, it's opportunist campers rather than French 'travellers'. They only seem to come onto the sites on Monday morning. Not everyone is decent and honest, there was a chap associated with a party I was with (but didn't know) a few years back in Maison Blanche who had klepto tendencies. That was the last time I went with, or near those 'friends'. Scum, the lot of them.

My son had his tent broken into...slashed...but wasn't in the tent at the time and had all of his valuables with him. They were camped in the woods between BSJ and the Porsche Curves campsites/banking.
In the ten years I've been going we have had a couple of collapsible chairs taken and that's it, guess we've been lucky so far.

when i go to le mans i am always very careful about what i take generally only what i don't mind losing, leaving or should some turd steal it, it wont be too much of a PITA. never take all my credit/debit cards have a cheap mobile phone only take the minium amount of keys with me and then keep them on me are all times.
Le mans 24hr is great but no matter where you are in the world someone will always want something for nothing and le mans is easy pickings.

We were camped at Mulsanne this year and there were kids going around just after the race had finished looking into tents. Also had people walking around the site on Sunday morning asking for spare food and money. Luckily my dad can speak the lingo and told them to F Off, nicely of course!

i know two of them, first timers who had a few too many shandies and got over excited. apologies on their behalf, they did keep well away from the VXRs though.Edited by jazzdevil on Wednesday 20th June 22:21
