How do French petrol prices compare these days? Is it better to fill up in Dover or in Calais or are prices so close it's not worth bothering about?

Depends if you are diesel, or petrol.

Diesel is cheaper here (France), petrol cheaper there. There is little competition fo 98 Octane and so that is easily the most expensive in France.

I worked out after exchange rate that I paid 2p litre less in france but it really depends on the garage you go to. I would tend to go for ASDA in the uk especially down south (not sure if it differs) where it is cuurently 129.7

Pretty sure I paid ~ 1.50 Euros a litre, which is a fair bit cheaper than the £1.33 round me.

we paid 1.5 euros in France per litre unleaded, which I took to be about £1.25 (assumed exchange rate 1.20 to the £) so a bit cheaper in France for us. Motorways were much dearer (no surprise there)

We found it comparable to the UK, if not a smidge cheaper - even on the autoroute the worst we saw was EUR1.77/l for super unleaded, which is about £1.45/l

Same prices for me, although it was much cheaper the further away from LM you got.

Pretty sure unleaded was 1.35 euro at Super U in Arnage on Saturday, but was 1.54 by Monday morning. I may have misread it on Saturday, but think that's what I saw.

It pays to look at the pump price. You should have been paying about €1.47

Darn sight better than Italy - we had €1.85/l for SP95 at urban petrol stations just a month or so ago....

1.35 would have been diesel petrol is 1.50-1.60 depending on location it is often cheaper round here than up at Calais.
