Planning a trip in a classic car, 1 day to get there, not too strenuous for us and the car.

We were planning to get to Rouen on the Autoroute, then visit the old Rouen circuit and then onwards by country roads to Saumur to the south of Le Mans.

Has anyone got any ideas of some nice roads from Rouen to Le Mans with a restaurant / bar / sights to stop at on route etc? Is there a route that runs 30 miles or so to the east of the Autoroute past Alencon perhaps

Thanks in advance!

From Rouen head for le Neubourg, Conches en Ouch, Verneuil sur Avre, Mortagne au Perche, Belleme, Le Mans.

Used it many times in the TVR - good driving, no gendarmes, cafes in ecery town.

I am just planning a similar route to above but will nip across west to stop for breakfast at Gacé. Unfortunately we arrive at Dieppe at 4 in the mornin so an hour on the autoroute to Rouen in the dark and then as dawn breaks we will hit the minor routes. A further couple of hours to Le Mans after breakfast so should arrive mid to late morning.

Planned route
Dieppe
Rouen
Elbeuf
Beaumontel
La Barre-en-Ouche
Bocquence
GaSE
Belleme
Le Mans

Can't wait. I am already packed and cars cleaned and there is still 5 days before we leave. May have to wash then again on Tuesday.

Watch out for the Tour de France that is northern France around the same time. There'll be road closures if not heavy traffic around the route.

Route details are here:  http://www.letour.fr/2012/TDF/COURSE/us/le_parcour...

We'll be doing similar. Completely swerve Rouen and come south via Falaise.
