Le Mans 2013, Drive down over 2 days from Calais??
Discussion
Hi Everyone
After sitting at home for this years Le Mans, I made my mind up straight away that next year Im going back. 2013 will be my 10th Le Mans (11th if you count a Classic) and after all these years you start to learn the good and bad bits are.
One of the best bits being the build up including the drive down to Le Mans. The drive down can be made even better if you can get a group of you together and stay off the main roads where the police seem to enjoy collecting taxes.
I have driven from Cherbourg, Caen, Le Havre and Calais (through the night), Caen is over in the blink of an eye and I wanted to come up with an idea to lengthen the journey down, ie keep that build up buzz for longer.
I would guess Le Mans will be the weekend 15/16th June 2013, therefore I will be looking to get the Tunnel on the Morning of Tuesday the 11th (say 8am), take 2 days (camping stop over, people could book hotel if they wanted) to get to Le Mans, taking in as many back roads as possible. The driving is more fun and there is far less chance of the friendly tax man pulling you over.
I am just wondering what others thought of the idea and whether people might be interested in joining in?
Everyone would still book their own tickets/tunnel etc, but we would try and book the same tunnel crossing (Or if some go by ferry, we could have a meeting place the other side) and campsite.
Let me know your thoughts..
Cheers
Nick
