Motorhome to Le Mans
Discussion

So, planning on buying a Hymer over the winter - and I am thinking of taking it to Le Mans (towing the Caterham - inspired by recent PH articles).
So, with that in mind:
1) which of the Campsites have decent electical hook-ups?
2) Am I being a total wuss
?
Answer 1: Houx has the best electrical hook-ups, but bring a long length of lead just in case the hook up isn't next to your plot (I'd bring 50mtrs to be on the safe side) and get there early (Wed preferably) as the hook ups get spoken for very quickly and there aren't enough to go around (unless you tap into someone else's).So, with that in mind:

?Answer 2: Not a wuss at all. I've often thought this gives you the best of both worlds and many do the same. Means you can still tear up the French roads (within reason) and have a dry, warm, semi noise cancelling place to sleep. Not to mention not having to queue up to use toilets/showers!
I keep trying to talk my mate into driving his motorhome down there and leaving it for me. That way I don't have to over pack the car with the girlfriends beauty tools, and I can properly enjoy a 'lightweight' drive down to Le Mans.

As said Houx. Assuming you are going to use it outside Le Mans you will end up with a long hook-up lead anyway for general use. This will have a special connector on it so also back a little adaptor to a 3-pin plug as you may be daisy-chaining off of a domestic multi-block. If you're still short the supermarkets sell cheap multi-block extension leads.1) which of the Campsites have decent electical hook-ups?

Yes. A luggage rack (roll bar) and luggage straps (reel of duck tape) is enough for many Se7en drivers, so man-up!
?
Take a genny - even on Houx there's no guarantee you'll be close enough to a dalek to hook up.
Took dad's motorhome to the Classic and stayed on Bleu Nord - genny was used once all weekend, but then he has replaced all the normal bulbs for LED ones which draw a lot less current and save the battery, and the fridge is gas (well, multi powered, but gas when there's no hooked up electrickery).
You may also want to consider whether the trailer will be entirely safe in one of the public at-circuit sites. Maybe a spot with one of the organisers who have their own compound might be a slightly better bet as far as that's concerned, or maybe a site nearby like Le Bounty.
