F1 and the 24 hours
Discussion
There is a big article in today's local paper that Ecclestone is now proposing to run the reinstated French GP at Magny Cours on the same date as the 24 Hours. This after the ACO awaitied the date of the GP and fixed the date of the race accordingly. I do hope this doesn't now lead to a volte face by the ACO and that the race is held, as originally planned, one week earlier.

Yes, that would be incredibly annoying. Now tickets are on sale though it must make this option difficult.
I think common sense would prevail and either f1 on different date or simply have both on same weekend. I don't think it would impact on the 24hrs.
It would have a massive effect on the 24Hrs!I think common sense would prevail and either f1 on different date or simply have both on same weekend. I don't think it would impact on the 24hrs.
2 major motor events on the same weekend, in the same country would lead to:
-a shortage of marshals
-less media coverage towards Le Mans
-less spectators
And just shows we're on the same way the LM 24 hours was in the early '90s when the FIA screwed it up for them. The ACO put back the 24 hrs to accommodate the New Jersey Grand Prix, that got cancelled, and now mr. b
kstone wants to hold a French GP at the same date as the postponed 24 hrs? He must be raving mad!vincegail said:

I'm a massive F1 (ferrari) fan, but i don't wait impaitently all year to go to an F1 race, i only want to do the 24hrs.
I would have thought the marshals are year on year supporters also.
As for media coverage in the UK, that comprises of eurosport which doesn't show the F1 and a few pages in autosport, which would still have the same pathetic 4 pages or so regardless. The papers barely mention the 24hrs anyway, expect when brits were involved in the big crashes the last couple of years.
I can see how the TV in france might not be happy about to prime sporting events occurring at the same time. An hour into the f1 race the 24hrs is finishing.
As the ACO has already received and processed 100s of orders from ACO members, all of which have been paid for up front, there's no way they will be able to change the date. Had the matter of the date of the French F1 GP been rasied before the start of LM2013 ticket sales, a change might have been a possibility.
