Well, all I can say is that as the pit walk is that crowded I'll give it a miss!

you have to be there quite early in the week, but on tuesday evening an autograph session is held in the pits. Much more quiet because a lot of people have not arrived at the circuit then. A very nice oppurtunity to come close to the cars and drivers!

As you witnessed, its still busy enough for some ignorant knobs to push people (me!) about

but yes, Avoid the pitwalk, and attend the autograph session instead

The Friday pitlane walkabout is always busy.

But could be made so much easier by the circuit.

In one way .... Out the other. A simple one way system rather than all getting to the end and then needing to turn back against the flow.

Would encourage a steady flow through.

The over zealous security are a pain also when all you want to do is stand on the pit wall to take a picture for 30secs. They seem to think your goal is something far worse.

Though not as comical as when they try and stop you from getting in the pit lane at the finish during the track invasion. Pointless springs to mind.

Was the first time I went to the pitwalk on a Friday for years this year, and what a pig! Ever since my second Le Mans I've always gone on Thursday, much less packed, usually enough room to fart about to get good photos etc.

OP good work on your fame, I managed to get in the 'centrefold' shot of the crowd directly beneath the podium after the race the first year I went

Not sure I approve of using a pic of McNish's crash with the "...Excitement..." caption. Crashes where the mass response of the crowd is silence followed by "Thank fk he alive" aren't my idea of excitement.

True.

I felt sick when I saw it on the big screen. I thought he was going to be hurt, but the guys behind the wall also.

The silence on the start straight was really noticeable and then genuine relief when it looked everyone was ok.

I dread to think of what would have happened if it hadn't snagged on the tyres and gone over the wall. Crowd were safe, but those directly behind the wall less so.

Yeah, it's an interesting dilemma.

I remember feeling the genuine warmth in the appluase in the terraces as McNish clambered out the car.

I remember a general warmth in the crowd too.Think it was a few people "cacking" themselves behind that tyre wall.
