Thinking about staying here on the area 24 site. Very little information available for it, I'm wanting somewhere a bit more chilled out and secure than at the track (Mason blanc for the last two years) the bit thought is that I don't want music played from a pa system through my tent at 4am, I was going to stay at le bounty but saw this and thought it might be a good option. Le bounty appeals on every front other than the distance I can imagine after the race getting back will be a right pain even if you are staying Sunday night.

Any thoughts or better still anyone stay there last year?

I stayed there last year and in 2010 and am planning to stay there this year too.

Pros:
Quiet - very quiet. Campsite chat, birds and racing cars is all you hear. No loud music etc, everyone is there because they wanted to be away from that
Plenty of space
Good ground for camping
Satellite tv showing race
Can sneak across fields for black ops trackside action only 10 minute walk (mind the barbed wire)
Secure
No dust etc

Cons:
Sometimes miss the atmosphere of the main campsites, people are friendly enough but keep themselves to themselves in own groups.
A bit of a trek to the main village, can get the little train but it's usually full at busy times. Parking Rouge ticket was very handy last year.
Toilets and showers ok but not amazing, they keep on top of cleaning but have had the odd problem with hot water. Guy and his team were proactive in getting things fixed though.

Essentially ideal if you value your sleep and security, want to be walking distance from the circuit and are not fussed about having a bar and food laid on.

Thanks for the help you two it sounds what we are after, bounty seems a bit better but unsure of it as to the getting about (totally reliant on the shuttle). Do you know if there is security and also how many people is the campsite for?

Security is decent, the site is quite secluded and there is a guy sat on the entrance with a basic barrier most of the time. Need a wristband to get in.

Not sure on numbers but the site in general is smaller and more low key that the other private sites.

There are a number of private sites within the vicinity offering all types of facilities, always good to look as the other private sites as they contribute to the running of the race by paying monies for the rent of the site to the ACO and also additional monies for using the approved suppliers.

I do have an interest as I run a site but would hope that spectators would want to contribute to the continuance of the race and the continued improvements which have occurred over the years.

Whatever your choice enjoy the Le Mans experiance.

Thanks mate take it wwr are paying the landowner instead? My mates stayed at your site on the curves before but I'm after a quieter vibe this year (or I may as well stay at Madison blanc again)

Think it will be white rabbit racing unless there is a better suggestion, is the location near the pistonheads meet last year down the road on the left by any chance?

Hear hear. And paying a landowner is lining somebody elses pocket not the ACO. If everybody paid their small bit to the ACO (and that includes those who try to watch the race for free) then it would be better for us all.

I appreciate that they are paying the Landowner but that is the point they dont pay towards the up keep of the circuit or the future of the race and this does seem rather unfair to the other private sites?

It is my belief that we should all assist in protecting this race and and make our contribution however small.

As a small point are you sure you stayed on our site last year as our site is certainly not noisy but is ceratanly trackside.

I get the point but when you start thinking that it is £75 to get in, £5 for a program, £70approx food and beer (it is 24 hours), £30 official t shirt, £100 grandstand. £280 per person approx for a lot of people through the gate they are not doing badly. The official aco campsites are only just fit for purpose two shower blocks for the whole of Maison blanc and no policing of the guests otherwise everyone would stay official.

But if everybody paid their dues and didn't line their own and local landowners pockets then maybe it wouldn't cost so much for the rest of us. And more importantly keeping the money coming in the race itself.
You can stay at WRR and watch the race without paying a penny to the ACO. If you also want to compromise on atmostphere and location that is.

I stayed at the WRR a 5 years ago. It was my 1st trip to Le Mans. I found it good and fun. Some of the people were very friendly and helpful.
I now stay at Team Langoustine inside the track. It is more money but I feel the location is better. Just South of the Dunlop S.. Great for pictures and within easy reach of anything you need..

5 years ago they were on Beausejour; they aren't now, but in a very quiet spot some distance away towards Arnage. It is very private, very quiet, and as regards ripping off the ACO by not paying their prices, well, I would refer to it as private initiative on the part of WRR. Besides, you might even have the price of a bog roll included

Thats a bit rich and then you proceed to give your take on it. The ACO like it or not have made a bed for themselves if the facilities on the campsites were at all decent (remotely value for money) I would be staying there, my mates are still staying Maison blanc I'm just done with paying though the neck for f all showers and toilets and no security and absolutely no interest in the campers enjoyment. Finally if the ACO campsites were empty you may have a point but every year they are fully booked so what is the problem if there weren't any alternatives the ACO would charge even more or give you less space and evn fewer facilities for the same price. There is nothing wrong with this as its business but god only knows why you feel the need to defend them.

Whether the ACO are making money or not is irrelevant, without monies being paid to them there will be no point in a private site as we may not have a race in the future if we all accept the view that they make enough money and dont invest further.

The ACO could improve public sites and they should be encouraged to do so, but we must bear in mind that we are talking private sites which do have security and plenty of toilets and showers.

In the years we've stayed on Maison Blanc we've never had a problem getting a shower or using the dunnies - occassionally a small q depending on your sense of timing

I totally buy into the fact that you get dheads on MB, happily they seem to be in the minority. Security seemed to be better in 2012, rather than being obsessed with folk parking on the metalled track within the camp site. If you buy a GE ticket to watch the race, then you've paid your dues I think (only my opinion).

I know what you mean about the showers if you time it right but for the money you shouldn't have to. Not sure about the dheads in the minority though as the amount of people who happy put a generator next to your tent and run it all night is common. We lost two bike in 2012 lol it was sat night so they had finished there purpose
