Non Toll Road route with stop off

hi All


Doing Le Mans trip again with 3 cars making our way down - last time we did the toll road route which was good for a first time - but a tad dull!

Decided this year we are going to do a non toll road route and stop off enroute somewhere - circa half way

Anyone got any recommendations for the route from Calais and suggested places to stop off for the night??

Someone else can help with the route but face is a great stop. Town square loads of British metal (and plastic) parking up. From there it's about 1.5 hours to lemans along he old route which is ace.

D438 / N138 from Rouen to Le Mans is the old route that was used before the A28 toll road was built. You join it a junction or 2 before the toll road.

Yep we always take the d438, no tolls much nicer and although slower it is more direct so shorter, plenty of places to stop and usually loads of interesting machinery along the route.

N138 , now 438, is a nice road and the one I prefer. Glace, is meant to be very pleasant, although I've not been.

Rouen is lovely, but getting in and out of it can be a compete nightmare. You'll need to book way in advance if wanting to stay there I. The town centre.

No over-night stop but here's the back road route we use to get there in a day (7am tunnel/later afternoon arrival at Le Mans), with a lunch stop.

The Pays du Calais is dull so use the A16 to get out of it ASAP - as far as Abbeville.
Head south from here, through Warlus and Grandvilliers to Marseille-en-Beauvaisis.
Turn south-west here through Gournay-en-Bray to Ls Andelys where we stop for lunch.

Out of Les Andelys stick east of the river at the first bridge, crossing at Courcelles-sur-Seine.
Turn left at Caer and fight through Everaux, coming out on the north west of town to make your way across and down to L'Aigle.
From there drop south to Belleme where you swing south-west through Bonnetable and the north east corner of Le Mans.

I've stopped in Rouen a few times and found it great. There's some lovely resturants round near the old town. A word about the Ibis in Rouen; the car park is shared with a shopping centre. Whilst we had no problems on a Sunday night, I'd be conerned leaving a car full of camping stuff there during the week.

It sounds like you almost know the way now. It's only been 9 years and a classic.

Guessing he means gace too, lol

We have had Face and Glace but sure they both mean Gace, we always used to stop there but prefer Bernay these days
